Hi everyone,
I was given a blue hyacinth as a gift - it has bloomed & now the blooms have wilted...what do I do with it now? Cut it down? I usually only deal with green leafy plants indoors. This is my first experience with a flowering plant. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

whew! Thanks for that, the foilage was just withering when I cut it down & I feared I had done wrong...pity it won't bloom again, it was so pretty.:(
I hope you enjoyed the flower - that's about all its good for. Most forced bulbs use up all their energy sending up that lovely bloom. You could pot it up and then plant the whole thing in an out of the way spot. Don't cut back the foliage until it has withered and gone yellow. This is the way the bulb builds energy for next year.
To force bulbs yourself, purchase prepared [pre-chilled] hyacinths in fall when available. Put in a hyacinth jar and fill with water to just below the bottom of the bulb. Place in a dark but warm spot for several weeks until the foliage has come up. Put in a bright spot and wait for those fragrant blooms [red, white, pink or blue]
