Absolutely. The stain really does not penetrate very far and is removed during sanding. When choosing your stain colour don't forget it will vary depending on the type of wood your floor is made of (oak, maple, hickory, etc.). Usually the displays show the colour on a few different types of wood so you can see the difference, which can be really huge in some cases.

Thanks for the info. Were you able to change the colour?? ie. go lighter or darker?

Look for a company that has a dustless sander. We had our floors redone and the amount of dust was so little I hardy had to wipe anything off. It is totally worth it to have it done professionally.

Agreed. 2 or 3 times is generally the rule of thumb. It is totally worth it to pay someone to do it. We decided to "save" by doing it ourselves. It really adds up with sander rentals and purchasing supplies and equipment for both sanding and the finishing process - not to mention the time and effort. When we found out AFTER the fact what it would have cost to have it professionally done we just about jumped off the roof. Doing it ourselves was SO not worth it! (And that's from die-hard diy-ers!)
