So I've been a long time member but haven't been around in a while, mainly cause our hopes of starting a family have finally been realized and I've got another month and a half till we welcome a small bambino into our home :confetti:
So thoughts of various home reno projects have been put on hold while I check out mothering forums, diapers, cribs, etc. The bit of stuff I've been up to which might interest my fellow decorating buffs is the nursery I put together...as a soon to be Mom of course I'm excited to show off my handy work :) Everything except the bamboo blind and stuffed animals in the room were either purchased secondhand, or made by me (curtains, bedding, mobiles, artwork, light shade embellishments, changing pad cover and dresser knobs) :D

I know the orange artwork in the back corner is too high, but the nail hole was existing and I just wanted to see it on the wall.

Here is a picture of the puppy dresser knobs I made from clay.

Although I'm happy with it, I am entirely open to any suggestions.

Hey Tangotori, as my first foray into polymer clay, I did unfortunately choose Sculpty III, instead of Fimo...which is essentially the same but apparently more flexible than Sculpty which might lead to breakage down the road. Of course, I read about this after purchasing it. I will be interested in seeing how they hold up and I guess I had never thought about selling, but might look into it once I get some free time back :D Thanks for the compliments!
The little knobs you created are fantastic! Did you make them from Fimo?
BTW... I really think you could sell things like this. You should think about it!
I suspected you were expecting a little boy - while the room could go either way (might need a little tweaking for a girl), it really does have a boy feel to it.. I suspect it was the plaid curtains that spoke "boy" to me, though :p
Great job!!
Thanks everyone!! I think I've been fairly lucky so far to have few issues with the pregnancy and have been easily keeping up my spirits and motivation to be really ready for the little one's arrival :D
Gerri, that is a great idea! I'll be looking through my existing crafting stash to see if there is anything appropriate, maybe even some old leash from our dogs :) I have a few other pieces of cloth-covered canvas to put on the wall and 3 small frames I've painted orange...just need to get the pictures for inside them and get them on the wall.
Jan in Van and LASS, actually the thing next to the closet door is a cubby hole closet (fairly large with 3 shelves). On the other side of that wall are the stairs to our basement, I wish it was a laundry chut, but we'd probably trip on the clothes lying all over the stairs, lol!!! There is even another small hole in the other corner of the room (that I don't show) that sits above our recessed fridge from the kitchen. I've been using the 2 holes for linens since we don't have a proper linen closet...baby won't mind :)
Smoodgie, we have been told it's a little boy, which is mainly the reason I chose the browns, oranges and puppies but in all honestly if "he" comes out a "she" I'd leave it cause I still love it! I thought it was funny, my neighbor was insisting that I should really have some blue in the room...it's ok, she's just old fashioned!! LOL!!!
I tried looking for knobs that would work, but wasn't impressed with what I was finding...either by their look or their price, so I knew I had to be able to come up with something better. They are one of my favorite things about the room by far :)
Thanks again everyone!
Congrats! You look like you've been having a lot of fun putting that room together and taking advantage of the nesting urge, especially making your own knobs really is something. I guess now you just get to sit and wait eh....
I LOVE the knobs on the dresser -- SO cute!! :) And you also did a great job on the curtains :clapping:
I think it's great that you used a totally unexpected colour scheme for a nursery.
Coongrats!!
CONTRATULATIONS! :fireworks to your & your hubby ....You must be so excited waiting for the arrival of your little Bambino......You did a wonderful job on the nursery(love the dresser)...it looks sooooo......cozy ,Be sure to let us know when the "little one " arrives. :)
I'm curious what is to the right of the closet door.
Laundry chut or dumb waiter!!!!!
Wonderful news about the babe. You've been very creative and it shows.
I'm curious what is to the right of the closet door.
Looks GREAT Mutantstar!!!!!!! Congrats on becoming a Mother! You will soon find it is the single most rewarding experience you will ever have...also the most challenging one. ;)
Enjoy
:) Mel
CONGRATULATIONS :confetti:
It's beatiful- I'm sure the bambino will love it! The handles are adorable. Where you say the orange art work is too high why don't you hang it with a ribbon or braid similar to a pets leash to keep with the theme. Look forward to hearing about the new arrival.
Gerri :)
