Privacy Issue

We are looking to plant something at the rear of our backyard, that will provide some privacy from the houses behind, which are at a higher elevation. We feel like we're "on display" when in our yard. The next door neighbours planted cedar trees, which have provided them with some privacy but I've heard that cedars attract bugs and that they die easily. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Our neighbours behind look down on us. WE just planted 75 5ft cedars. They are the type that grow together and then up. Apparently they grow up to a foot a year...so in a couple of years we will have a decent privacy screen. I have never heard anything bad about cedars...but here on the westcoast that is what is normally used. Also Laurel hedging, but that is terrible if you get a dead spot.

we have always planted cedars...they are cheap and hardy and require little maintenance...never noticed any bugs...the grow quite quickly and can be pruned easily if u want to...good luck...they would be what I would plant for privacy for sure...in fact....I did :D
