Does anyone have a good idea for something to put along the edge of the lawn where it meets the road so that cars don't drive onto your lawn??
Somebody drove over the edge of our brand new lawn this past spring. So my hubby picked up a few reflectors on metal stakes and put them along the edge of the lawn. This morning, I noticed that some TURD had driven over our lawn and right over a stake  Of course, because it's been raining since last night, this put a nice big muddy gouge into the lawn, and there are clumps of what used to part of our lawn on the road :hairpull:
Maybe I'll stick a few spikes with nice sharp points along there, so the next inconsiderate boob who doesn't give a crap about somebody's else's property learns a lesson!!
I'm probably over-reacting because I'm already in a bad mood today, but this really ticks me off

You might want to check with the municipality to see if there are any restrictions within a certain distance off the road. here, the city actually owns about 3M of land from the edge of the road and has rules for that area. bascially they ensure they can dig etc. whenever they need to and they don't replace if someone has built a fence or put in any other hardscaping over a certain size.
boulders, but instead I will second (or third  ) the suggestion; you would'nt need to keep them straight, either, you could curve them in and out and have some nice flowers in the in-between bits . .
The best sign I have seen is in the shape of a Tombstone and Reads " Here lays the last dog that pooped on my lawn" maybe Smood you could change it to read "here lays the last person to drive on my lawn". But then again the people that do things like that probably can't read.
I have a dog poop problem on my edge of the grass near the sidewalk. We are going to put up a picket fence next spring. I don't know if that is an option for you?
I am considering putting up temp. signs saying 'don't poop on my grass, can you not see children play here!', or
'thank you so much for the poop, much appreciated', or
'I can see you from my window, pick up your poop'.
You could put up a sign 'does my grass look like a parking bay?' or
'thank you for the landscaping, much appreciated, the tyre tracks are an improvement'
The house on the corner of our street had to put 2 huge rocks on their lawn as people were taking short cuts. It looks very nice and they haven't had a problem since.
Wow, that really took a lot of nerve, to just park on a stranger's lawn!! It's good that you were able to sort things out with your neigbours. From the sound of it, they were at least apologetic for what their guests did.
Some people just seem to have no respect for other people's property. When I was walking the dogs yesterday, we walked by a car that had a huge long key scratch along half of one side. A DEEP scratch -- the car was black and the scratch was white. I've had a car keyed before, and let me tell you, that is NOT a happy moment, to see something that you own and work hard to pay for damaged intentionally.
But I digress -- I like your rock & plant idea. My hubby is thinking the same thing, about putting some rocks along the edge of the lawn. And if that doesn't work, then we'll resort to spikes!! At least he feels the same way I do about this. He's usually so laid back and unconcerned about pretty much everything -- so if this is annoying him, then maybe I'm not blowing it too far out of proportion!!
Smoodgie, I can relate. A previous home that was on a large corner lot used to get the same treatment. Our back neighbours had a wedding and their guests even parked their cars on my lawn!! To come home to 5 cars parked on your lawn is so maddening! They weren't parked parallel either, they had driven up onto my lawn proper!
Because this was a large lot, we were not in the financial situation to afford a fence, and besides, why SHOULD I even have to put up a fence and lose the open feeling? We moved before doing this, but I was going to get huge rocks (more like boulders) put on the side next to the road. I was going to add soil and plant all around the boulders with small ornamental shrubs and flowers and trees.
I think that rocks are a nice natural barrier that you could probably apply in your situation as well. Plant pretty flowers and shrubs (small dwarf varieties as you don't want them to grow so big that they'll overtake the yard) Rocks will definitely damage the cars that are so bold as to try to park on your lawn :D ... and yet it will still look like a natural, purposeful landscape project.
PS: About the neighbours, they were told about their guests, and we eventually gave them permission to park there for their celebrations. We were much more upset at the idea that these guests just assumed that they could come up on someone's lawn without first asking if it was OK. The neighbours came by after all the celebrating was done and gave us some nice italian sweets and wine as a thankyou... yeah it sure sweetened our disposition afterwards . Being friendly neighbours is much easier on the nerves than fighting over what happened.
