Putting up window boxes

Does anyone know how I can put up window boxes? I've seen brackets that you can use over a balcony, but nothing for attaching them to the wall. What kind of brackets would you use? Also do I need special screws for cement/bricks?

Below is the pic of the windows (the main floor ones by the porch where I am considering putting up the window boxes.

We have mounted window boxes in the cement. My husband drilled holes and then mounted the boxes with screws, he also put L-brackets under the boxes to sturdy them. I leave them there year/round.
I plant the flower in liners and just pot them in when the flowers are ready.

to drill into cement or brick you need the right drill bit. Once you have that it is not a hard job. Lee Valley has some brackets that I do not need any screws for brick. If you drilled into the sill it may let water in under the aluminum, unless of course you seal it well with some gunk.
I installed a mailbox into brick.....drilled hole, tapped in wood dowel and then screws into the dowel.

Our ledges aren't as deep as yours so I need to attach the boxes to the wall somehow.

Hi mcc,

I also have a similar front on my house. I bought 3-4" rectangular boxes and just set them on the window ledge (thought I'd need to attach to the brick, but the weight of the planter is fine). Maybe you could try this, if your window ledges are deep enough.

they should be easy to find. i know that lee valley has some, but i bet you could find some at canadian tire, home depot, rona, and probably all garden stores. just ask, or phone ahead.

maybe you have walked right past and not realized what they look like?

you can check out lee valley's online catalogue for them. they are pretty basic and i think just white. depending on the colour of your boxes you might want black or a different colour.
