OK

I'm off to the hospital now. We are admitting him to be catheterized for a few days and to get him to start eating again.
It's killing me - but all I can do is hope for the best.
please keep us posted...best wishes to you and Dave...
He's 8yrs old. He's my heart I would do anything for this little guy! On hold waiting for the vet as we speak.
you may have already answered this but how old is Dave?...poor lil guy...hope he gets better soon
to the hospital... definitely taking this seriously.
Just wishing I could get him to eat his food. He needs it.
He obviously needs to be at the vet..... now...... You may end up, since he won't take the medicine for you, taking him in daily for a tech. to give it to him. I would not fool around with this any longer.
I tried that - he's on the s/d stuff absolutely snubs it. I caved and went and bought some tuna which he normally goes ape for ... he ate some of it but I think it was out of guilt for me.
He's straining at the box again and then licking himself furiously after unsuccessful boughts.
Wahhhhhhhhhhhhh!
add a little fish oil on top and kitty will love it even more. Oil good for the coat and fur balls.
My sister said it was Hills Prescription diet either Feline s/d dry food or Feline c/d dry food. She said it's only available from the vet, as it is prescription. But it was definitely a dry food, and her cat ate it without complaint. It is a bit pricier than store brands, but well worth it!
Sorry to hear your kitty is under the weather. Hope he is loving the attention and will feel like a bite to eat soon.
he's still snubbing his nose at everything!
I think there are dry foods specifically for male cats with crystals ( you said that Dave was put on wet food, right?). I'm pretty sure that my sisters cat was on a prescribed dry food. I'll ask her what it was and let you know. Can't have a starving kitty!
to Cecil and Elise!
Dave is on a hunger strike at the moment... must find him some good food! He is also refusing to open his mouth for any medicine whatsoever. Who knew that stubbornness in redheads also applied to cats!
I can totally understand your decision to name your cat Dave. After all I used to have a budgie named Cecil.
Glad he's improving Red!! Keep lavishing him with lots of love and attention, it really is the best medicine!!
Happy Easter to you and Dave!!
Dave is doing very good. He took a very very very good rhymes with tea last night that had me jumpin' for joy! He hates his special food - so we're forced to leave our other cat outside (he loves it!) until Dave is wracked with starvation and eats it.. his meds are in it!
Dave... well I had another cat named Bob first and Bob and Dave sounded good together. Should you meet Dave, you would understand that this is the perfect name for him. He's ridiculously handsome, laid back and well kinda dopey at times.. though this is an act. He pretends to be not the sharpest knife in the drawer but after seeing him allude 2 technicians and a vet... I've reconsidered!
Dave would be perfect for a beer commercial should anyone on here be casting for kitties!
How is Dave today? Sorry to hear of your kitty dilemna but glad to hear he is getting good care, love and attention. BTW, how did "Dave" get his name, find this kind of odd for a cat..but hey, could be worse I'm sure.... Anyway, wishing you all a Happy Easter!! Enjoy the sunshine and good well soon!...
I had a puppy named Tasha when I was first born... way up in Sudbury.
She was a poodle.
She hated me.
LOL
I am sure that yours is much nicer than my...
Dave has flopped in front of me flashing his belly.... must go and rub!
My Tasha and I are glad to hear that Dave is feeling better!

Hope he's feeling better! Our male cat had the same thing twice - limiting kibble really helped, he hasn't been sick since we switched him to only wet food (Science Diet prescription stuff - urinary s/o I think it is).
cat pooh from wet food reeks more than nose hairs on fire!
My cat went on strike when I finally enforced dry food, I had to lock my door at night, a vendetta was definitely planned.
Whatever works Red, I'm happy Dave can poop and watch tv with you at the same time :D
poor Dave. I hope he'll be better soon. I have a male cat too, his name is Tigger and he is so affectionate.
Best wishes for Dave.

Gee years ago cats ate what they could catch so farm cats ate raw all the time. We fed our's Buss n Boots and Dr. Ballards's as there were only 2 kinds then, not the multitude of aisles full of pet foods like now. They also drank milk. The Vet. did not carry any specialty foods. You know what, they all lived to ripe old ages.
Makes you wonder.
So sorry to hear about Dave!
The crystal problem seems to be quite common these days. My sister's cat had something similar and she had to switch him over to wet food permanently....he's much better now.
Glad to hear that he's doing better and I hope that he gets back to his old self in no time!
Best wishes.
Red Heron, hope your Dave is better soon. Where on King E is the vet you were praising?
I am looking for two siamese kittens. I have a reserve on 2 for later this summer if the female takes but they will be lynx point and show-type cats, which I find can be a little to skinny and pointy sometimes. I had siamese for many years but my last two died of old age. No one seems to be breeding pet-types anymore.
Does anyone know of a source? I would like seal or chocolate point and I would like to start looking now.
Thanks
I thought wet food was bad for them....
Dave likes to graze but with the wet food he is forced to eat little bits because it dries out...
He is a bit of a pig....
I know some male cats can have that problem with dry food. I worked at a Vets. and often they came in with the same problem and all were switched to wet food.
the colour matches the Stone colour on my walls beautifully!!!
It's my very own Zen garden I suppose!!!!
I have him on wet food at the moment... my other cat Gootch LOVES IT! I think it smells gross, but if they love it and it keeps them healthy - I'm ALL for it!
awe pets are so helpless when they are sick. Happy he is on his way now to mending. Gee is a litter box in the living room a new decor statment? I hope it matches the rest of the decor, :) lumps and all.
Just thought I would say hi and say that I hope your cat is feeling better soon! We had to give our cat away b/c of my Dh's asthma but our cat also had this same problem of crystals with the same symptoms. He was treated at the vet and recovered fine. Apparently it was probably caused by the type of dry food we were feeding him. We were told to change his diet to Science Diet Light dry cat food and he never was troubled with this problem again.
I hope Dave recovers quickly too! I remember how difficult it was to see our little guy in so much agony.
he's coming around! With all the talk of pets and their bad habits on the forum, it has me thinking about what amazing companions our two are. Yes, there have been a few puppy accidents, kitty furballs, the annual shedding season, several encounters with skunks and so on.... but they are always ready to play, never say no to a walk or a snuggle, love to keep my feet warm in winter...and are ALWAYS thrilled to see me when I come home!! Rare friends, indeed!!
