I'm thinking of getting one or two new knives, and I'm thinking of looking into the ones with orange handles by Rachel Ray. There's an 'east-west' knife in either 5" or 7" that I'm considering, but I may get the paring knife too. My needs are basic, and the knife sets that are in the wood-block-on-the-counter are a waste for me.
It seems Linen N Things is the only retailer carrying them so far, and I haven't made a trip out to the store because only 2 types of this line are in stock-I'll wait until there is more to choose from.
Has anyone seen them or tried them? Opinions?

I saw them at Linens N Things, $80 for the chefs knife, pricey. The smaller paring knife was more reasonably priced.
I have numerous Henkles which I find very good. I just bought a Cuisinart seraded bread knife and a chef's knife which I find to be absolutely amazing. The bread knife is the BEST I have ever used/ had (it goes through bread like a razor) and the best part it only cost me 9.99 at TJ Maxx
I have had my share of knives including the expensive ones. The best knives I have are actually from the Shopping Channel by Wolfgang Puck. I only paid $40.00 for 4 knives. I have had them for about 1 year now and they are still very sharp -- too sharp. The design is very similar to the Santoku knives. I love them, cooking is a lot easier when you have sharp knives. If you do buy these knives, be careful ... excuse me for repeating myself, they are really sharp.

If you want high end knives, Henkel is the name most people look for. You can find them most places including Homesense. Whatever you buy, if you are really into cooking, make sure they fit comfortably in your hands.
I'm with the others, got a 13 piece set from Cdn. Tire a few years ago (I think they were on special for $9.99) by Wiltshire. Guaranteed to stay sharp for 30 years (so far 3 years and still sharp). I've been really impressed by them (although the bone scissors did break but for the price I haven't been bothered to take it back) and the higher priced 'gourmet' brands I have are now in the back of the drawer because they need sharpening.
I bought a few of the President's Choice knives that Loblaw/Zehrs/Superstore chain carry. They were quite inexpensive (around $20 each), are pretty good quality, and seem to remain sharp despite using them a fair bit. I would totally recommend them!
I'm often wary of "Designer or Famous Person Brands" because it seems like the products are inferior to others at the same price point. I suppose they have to pay the "famous person" to use their name but that just increases the cost to the consumer in my mind.
I bought a set of Miracle Blade knives from The Shopping Channel about 5 years ago and I love them. They were only $30 for an entire set including a block and they are just as sharp as when I bought them. Out of the set I have my favourite knives I reach to more often than some of the others, how often do you use a boning knife?
