Hi Everyone,
Has anyone ever recessed their fridge to make it look more built in.
My husband and I are thinking of cutting in the wall behind the fridge to gain an extra 6 inches of space so the fridge doesn't stick out so much. Has anyone ever done this? What's involved?
Behind the wall is our dining room and we have an armoire right up against that wall.
Thanks.

how about a counter depth fridge?...you wouldn't have to cut out the wall......they are 24 inches deep in line with the counter.....
Thanks for the replies.
My husband is not to excited about cutting a hole in the wall for the fridge. But I think we need to do something to make the fridge not stick out so much.
Hopefully, I can convince hime to do it this weekend.
Thanks.
I have a recessed fridge as well, but as in DBD's case it was here when I bought the house. The only issue I have is that there is a small bedroom behind mine and it is a rather small hole in comparison to today's standard fridges so I'm either stuck making the hole bigger or buying another small fridge when the time comes to replace it (unfortunetly sooner than later).
I didn't do it but whoever had this house before me did it. Basically the wall is just gone below the cupboard and there is something like a fiberboard or something in it's place. Mine actually backs onto a stairway vs a room so it looks like they knocked out the wall and built this more flimsy wall. there is a hole cut in mine (for air I suppose) so I can touch my fridge from the stairs if I ever feel the need.
Anyway, I think all you really need to worry about is whether you have a newer enclosed back on the fridge as they don't require the kind of air circulation ones with exposed coils do. You'd also have to even out the floor so you can roll the fridge back.
