Red-brick wall

Hi,
We are renovating a 4-bedroom home and are wondering what to do with the red-brick wall in the living room. I've seen people paint it and cover it. Our budget is very tight, considering it is a revenue property. Please advise.brick fireplace wallbrick fireplace wall

thanks.

Thanks a lot for your reply Mrs. Peacock. For some reason, people think I'm crazy for wanting to paint over brick. I love this look, I see it in magazines all the time. But I'm a bit scrared that if It doesn't look good, there's no going back.
I will certainly give it a serious thought, especially that the brick is stained and will eventually need some sort of cleaning treatment. I also appreciate the great advise about the mantle. We are replacing the original wood fireplace with an electric one for insurance purposes and we will need to fill the gap.
Again, thanks a lot :)
