I am computer illiterate and I will pass this info on to DH who will be able to communicate this to him in computer speak!
HeyRedheron, I like how your site is set up. One technical type comment I have is that I normally keep my monitor set on 800 X 600. The issue for me (and whoever else keeps their monitor at that setting - very common as I understand it) is the main page of the site (that loads after the intro which is fine) does not center vertically (unless I do it manually, and normally I don't bother unless there is something I really want to see). That means most of your logo vanishes off the bottom of my screen.
I haven't done any web design in a couple of years, but it seems to me your programmer should be able to get that thing to automatically center. It's a shame to lose your logo that way.
to Jazzie to do a painting in honour of said lipstick...
We could call the painting Scarlett Lips...
We're going to need beautiful "Roadtrip" scarves... anyone here a textile artist?
Stop and pick me up on the way. We can compare lipstick colours and I will research scarf tying. I warn you though, if you have your eye on Jazzie's painting "Earth, Wind and Fire", you will have a battle on your hands....
I expect to enjoy your art while sipping on bevvies... I can't decide between a Starbucks Chai or large vat of red wine! I think it's time to bring the redhead roadshow out west! I can't take the frickin' cold anymore!
I had time for a VERY quick peek at your site from work, looks fabulous! If I ever get to TO, I will definately visit.
Modern Country looks great - I could get lost in that website! I will definitely check it out in person. And, PLEASE come here and help. You are right about the lack of competition, and Edmonton is in a much sadder state than Calgary, so think NORTH, ok?
I'm can't say when the actual launch will be... too busy! So this will be my stand in website for now!
keeps up in Alberta... I'm relocating the Scarlet Bird out there!!
They have had to shut off my heating system here at the studio for the shoot 'cause it makes too much noise so I'm FREEEEEZING!!!!
do you mind if we share this link out of the forum (i have a friend i want to show this to) or would you prefer for the real launch??
i know the answer to your last question. sadly, there is not enough competition in alberta. businesses like that survive and even thrive despite bad service/product. my dream is to come back to calgary one day and change things up!
check out this site:
modern country interiors
the owner is extrememly nice. (this is one of the stores in inglewood)
You know, your consolation should be that it's hot in Morocco too :), so there... more authenticity. :)
I am starting to shop for my new and first home and got two pieces at Morningstar :), very good prices there. Did not see any chandeliers as nice as yours, I guess it depends when they get a shipment in.
Thank you for the advice! I have copied and printed your list to take with me. I will surely think of you! I will also stay out of Chintz. My DP and I have several pieces from Chintz in our living room (coffee table, footstools, slipper chairs, accessories) but we have not bought a thing from them since our "armoire" experience. We bought an armoire. AFTER we had paid for it, they informed us they only had the floor model and offered a small discount. We decided that was ok and agreed to delivery. When we got the thing, we discovered the assembly was completely shoddy and that there were odd pieces of wood attached to compensate for the bad assembly. No discount would have been enough to persuade me to keep it! I tried to get them to come and retrieve the thing, was unable to do so "nicely" and was forced to get all snarky with the manager in order to convince them to haul that piece of #@%* out of my house. I have to ask myself, now that I have relived THAT experience, why I go there at all....
at Morningstar on Yonge in Toronto...
Haven carries them too I believe! We propped $23,000 worth of silk carpets for that episode, but for the most part, she got to keep everything in my design! That room was shot in the dead of summer - 6 of us in the room with no room to walk... my face kept sliding down to my chest it was so hot.
and I had a summer cold to boot! Memories!!!!! LOL
I bought all the fabrics from Little India - Nu Creation... saris!
well, since you guys are having such fab weather (sniff sniff :(), i suggest to hit the streets!
Inglewood - (9th Avenue - east of downtown) - check out Modern Country Interiors, tons of antique stores and small boutiques - this strip is anti-modern.
11th Avenue b/w 4th and 11th Streets - Koolhaus, Domicilie, Soho Nada - they're all kind of the same. Very Upcountryish.
Maria Tomas on 10th Ave & 8th Street - mainly fabrics & Farrow & Ball, but they have some accessories, lamps and furniture too.
If you're willing to venture out of the downtown area, there's also Home Evolution near SE Costco & Ikea.
Please think of me when you're in my hometown! :)
ps. yes, chintz is soooo snobby!
I can tell you are right, from the heron's website alone. I agree completely with your comments about Chintz - I can hardly stand to go in there anymore. I hardly feel welcome when I am tripping over everything and can't look through the mirrors because the stack is so large and heavy. It is overwhelming. My new "most" favorite store in Edmonton is Cottswood, where I can see everything, nicely displayed. Since I can't get to Victoria soon (insert sad face) I might be shopping in Calgary next weekend. Any suggestions?
Looking again and again, I love the most the Morroccan inspired room - I am a sucker for exotic :). And especially that pendant is beautiful. If it is possible, could you tell me where you got it ?
Thank you again !
wow - love the website. i love that mushroom/taupey/greyish color in the background! when will the real site launch?
man, i need to go to the store sans ds - i see so much stuff in the vignette pics that i haven't seen b4! paris - i think we're both gonna be in trouble! lol!
dreamer - this store is a much nicer shopping experience than chintz. it's not as crowded and over done. i find in chintz it is over merchandised and the service is horrible too. (the one in calgary anyway)
and I will be dreaming of fabrics by Galbraith & Paul. Fabulous!
the Venue Nightclub... the ol' Casino Lounge. They used the club just before I renovated it to film Bollywood Hollywood in it!
on March 16th... FULL LIPS! My secret lipstick was made by QUO and has been discontinued much to my dismay... back to MAC I go!
My mother threatens to call the US HGTV and give them a tongue lashing... she has lip-envy!
redheron, could I by any chance get the name of that club you designed?? it looks wonderful!! I'm always looking for somewhere nice to go in Toronto and never end up satisfied!
by the way.. what a beautiful website.. love it!!
site - I go there to check on the progress. This website is what will eventually become the www.redheron.ca!
Thank you - glad to get feedback on the website, I'm ridiculously picky and am just getting to the point where I have to get it online!
Looks like one of my favourite colours - Lancome's "Attitude"! When will we see you on TV next? I will hope to see the lipstick!
I will check out your artist on the net.
I love your work :) Great website. Can't wait to visit your store...but I'm afraid...I'll want EVERYTHING!
BTW, what's the difference b/w this site and www.redheron.ca. I've tried it before but it is under construction I think.
made by this awesome artist from the states... www.galbraithandpaul.com
Linen and silk shades to die for ... but they're not cheap!
That would be me and my lips... the US networks are repeatedly asking me to tone those puppies down!
Sure, I would love to see the chairs (pic). If you have them in the store I could drop by too.
I do not have my table yet to know its exact color, but until then I am looking for places to get these ladderback rush seat chairs that I am fixated on :).
Your website is great! Are you the hot redhead with the red "Power" lipstick that appears in a few of the pictures? Your store looks wonderful too, like a better version of Chintz & Co (one of my favorites here). I love the graphic "coral" fabric that is used on some cushions and lampshades. Where did that come from?
