OK

I haven't been spanked at all, not even a little whip on the bum for me. Why? Have you? :D
....the torpedos Aan.......full steam ahead!!!!
deleting going on? Have you been struck or spanked yet Aan? What did you do, acknowledge something that is out in the open for all to see?
I like a fiesty debate any day... but I think a bad precedent has been set long ago...
Such is life I guess!
according to Jason anyway.. .
been given out for harassment on this forum? Seen numerous posts that would qualify but don't know if strikes have been issued...
Posting in the wrong forum is not a strike.
As stated on numerous occasions, I've been asked by several members to gently remind people of this for ease of use.
Thanks.
Glad to hear that. Thank you for the clarification!

evidently making an error in judgement and posting on the wrong forum does bothers some people...
.....really and truly, if they count posting something on the wrong forum a strike, then I don't give a fiddler's %^&*% if I'm knocked off the boards!!!
I agree, harassment is one thing put posting in the wrong forum is quite another

The moderators are giving people a "strike" each time they break a rule -- off topic posts on the wrong board, self-promotion, abusive posts..... after you get three strikes, I believe you're no longer allowed to use the boards.
you're wading into murky water with that question....
do you hear the hush....
The fog rolls in...
Hey - is that the Lochness Monster over there?
Many of us have decided to forego baseball and take up cricket instead.
Unless they have strikes...
So, what are the rules, is it three strikes and you are out........or what is the deal?????
email me about the good things!
here you go!
I have not been on much and have to watch my words carefully. A lot of great things are happening right now that I cannot share with my friends here because of rules.
I only answer a few posts now.
This is too bad for H&H. Redheron is such a great contributor. I have gotten a lot of info myself that has been very valuable to me. I look at this site as a great network of ideas and opportunity to help others as well as find what out what they are doing in the decorating world. I can pass, ask or get an opinion quickly when I need too.
Perhaps we should have a listing page for our members who wish to share that information and that would clear up who's who and what's what.
It is hard to be in the world of decorating and design without our talents and expertise coming through. It is our passion. We live, breathe and eat our profession - It has to come out sometime. AND - we love to share it.
are we at this again?if someone asks, so what? from now on red, send the info to me and i will post it if someone wants to know.you still have my email right? if it's a third party its ok. others have already posted all your contact info anyway. no one has to go see you or buy your stuff if they don't want to.we are all adults here right?capable of resisting tempation ? i agree with the person who asks for everyone to be able to hang a tag line . what about another forum where anyone who wants to can put contact info or website links. they would not all need to be selfpromotion , it could be a link to there favorite store or joke site . breathe deep .let some positive energy flow!
I agree with everyone, I don't want Red Heron to go. If this happens I think the site will loose one of its greatest contributor. I am fairly new here but I have been paying special attention to all RH's posts.
I hope she does not leave.

RH you must be careful !!
In a very short while you became the colour guru of the forum either by putting your seal of approval on someone's choices or offering an alternative while helping us to understand why a different colour /style was better. Your advice is invaluable. It is people like yourself and the other pros that keep me checking in. When all the crap started awhile back I started looking around for a different forum but found the other boards too quiet. Probably because they didn't have a Redheron to keep the interest up!!
The business ethics are quite different from one to another who frequent the forums. Yes there are many decor/designers as well as other business people of high caliber who are members here.
Actually I suspect that is part of the problem. There are quite a few professional designers who help/post here regularly. They have also been very careful (IMO) to ensure they only offer advice and I can remember one in particular (who seems to have vanished lately) who was always very helpful and completely discouraged the idea of anyone contacting her in an effort to steer clear of any perception of her marketing her business.
So I think the issue is what is fair to all of those whose businesses are directly related to the advice they are giving. It's walking a fine line where (as I interpret the site rules) no direct profit is seen from posting here. So, when the question of 'can I hire you?', 'where can you be reached?' has come up before, the designers (that I have seen) have been clear that they will not accept business from their participation in the forum.
There have been occassions where they have posted their websites and I am not sure where that comes with regard to the rules. Maybe much of it is by matter of degree, I don't know.
Meanwhile, I suspect that all the professional designers on the site do need to work by the same set of rules or some are going to leave. That would be a shame because there are so many here who are so helpful and really do give us some great advice.
I'm fairly new too the board & don't want to see her go either. I can't imagine very many professional designers of her calibre giving their input for free like she does to this forum.
to make things clear.. (by the way, I don't like participating in this kind of stuff, but since my name has been posted I need to defend myself).
I contacted Jody before posting ANY drawings of mine, and made sure that it was not crossing the line. I was simply sharing something I had done with my friends here on the forum..
I don't have a house to decorate like most of you do, not even an apartment. I need to let my creativity out some other way, for now, and that way is drawing. I can't share pics of my newly decorated living room, but I can share pics of the new drawing I did. It's an artform, just like decorating, and I dont see how that is a problem.
I was not posting the pics of my drawings to "solicit" business. I had no intention on doing so. It's not my fault people became interested in purchasing them.. at which time I would direct them to send me an email, keeping it off the forum. In fact, before posting pics on here, I would have never even dreamed of making money with my art.. it was something I liked to do and share with friends.. that's it.
When sharing my drawings, I got posts from people saying that I made them smile, that it invoked some kind of good feelings and you know what? That made my day.
That being said, I still don't see anything wrong at all with what RedHeron did. I understand that, if she was asked not to, and still did it.. then of course it's a different story. But why be asked not to in the first place? Because of people complaining about it? I don't see how it bothers them if someone fulfills a simple request for a fellow forum member. She didn't say "please go check out my website and hire me to design your house!" .. she simply answered a question to an inquiring mind.
That's all.
jenjen - there were other posts that were more questionable than just this.
but she didn't say...''Hey everybody here's my website''...she was asked for her website...so how does that apply?
oh ok...thanks Jody...
because she was asked not to post this info anymore.
but she didn't say...''Hey everybody here's my website''...she was asked for her website...so how does that apply?
At the time, Smoodgie, we drew the line at "craftspeople" versus "business owners".
As a result of the recent fervour, we are drawing the line at ALL business activity. So if Mambo were to solicit business, or post her portfolio for the sake of soliciting business we would ask her not to.
It's too bad that we need any moderating at all. Nobody should need to be scolded or awarded a strike for bad behaviour.
Jody, you say that people aren't allowed to use the boards for self-promotion -- yet you allow MamboGirl to use the boards to promote and even sell her prints. Why is there a double-standard?? Either everyone can or everyone can't.
