I am considering buying this antique sideboard to use inside my front door entrance to put shoes and gloves in it because I dont have a closet there, I would like something more contemporary but this would fit and its cheap. I think with a little tlc it might look ok. I have never refinished anything do I need some suggestions.....I was thinking of painting it black or chocolate brown. Any suggestions or does anyone know somewhere I can get this done for a good price? (in Toronto)

If you are thinking of painting it, it is quite easy to do yourself. Staining is more involved if you go that route.
