rescued a wildflower

This little English Daisy (Lawn Daisy, Bruisewort Bellis perennis) has been living in my lawn since we moved here in 2001. It never really spread through the lawn, which I didn't want anyway, but this year I got to feeling sorry for it. I decided to reward its strong survivor instinct (after getting beheaded year after year by the lawnmower) and give it a better home in a place of importance. I dug it out with my son, and it now lives happily in one of the pots I painted last year.

I know that some regard my brave little wildflower as a weed, but isn't it sweet? I love how the flower faces turn to the sun and kind of go to sleep at sundown.

Oh I like those little blue ones too! I think they are Forget-Me-Nots, one variety anyway. Those ones have made it clear to me that they don't want to grow where I move them, they only want to grow places when it's THEIR idea. (cheeky things!) Neighbours have some growing with their daffodils, and the colour contrast is so pretty!

A couple of years ago I dug up all the ones that sprung up throughout the growing season and planted them beneath a large ornamental blossom tree in the front yard. It was a lot of work, and I was really looking forward to a mass of blue the following spring. As luck would have it, the tree was the one that had to be taken out by city crew when they accidentally disturbed water and gas lines.

Hey, nothing says that a weed can't be pretty!! I for one think your little pink wildflower is very nice :) Good for you to dig it and give it a safe new home in one of your funky pots :)

Here's my "weed". I discovered it yesterday growing between two interlocking bricks in front of the house. Not where I would plant it, but it's pretty nonetheless :)
