Resilvering mirrors

Has anyone ever tried to fix the spots that are in an old mirror, and were they successful, and what did you do? Perhaps the charm of the old mirror is in the spots, I'm just curious.

We had it done around 1993. I can't remember the cost, but it was reasonable. I'm not sure of the process, but it would be worth investigating to see it if be done by a DIY'er.

Thought I wouldn't be getting an answer after all, thanks for the information. Did you think the cost was excessive, or was it reasonable?

We had an old mirror refinished at a glass shop. They used silver nitrate to recoat the mirror. Turned out great.
