rock cover

HHassist's picture

hi there! Hope someone can help me...I was wondering what is the best type of rock to use at the side of our house. There was an ugly red jagged non-uniformed size type rock all along the side of our fence and walkway(abt 60 ft long and 3 feet wide) but yesterday I raked/dug it all out since it had lots of weeds growing in it, even right through the landscape fabric underneath. I want to put down new fabric and change the rock colour to a more neutral colour. Anyone know what is the best type of rock to buy?...there seems to be alot of different choices. Is a pea gravel size cover better or a larger rock mix better? I guess the smaller the rocks the less likely dirt and weed seeds will blow in and sprout????Maybe not. Help please...I have no idea about what to use.

thanks! I was wondering how deep it should be. Before, at one end it had about one inch and the other about 4 inches! I will try to correct this before putting the new rock down. :)

Thanks! I like your idea of putting plants in the gravel to soften it. l will go to the garden centers and price out the pea gravel. I have no idea what amount to buy but hopefully I can estimate. I can't wait to freshen this area up. Last year it was so weedy. The weeds were so hard to pull out of the old sharp rock.
