I'm sure I saw on a home show once that they used plywood subflooring and notched parallel grooves in it to resemble hard wood strip flooring. After it was stained and sealed - it very closely resembled the real thing. Has anyone every heard or seen of such a thing?

We saw it on an episode of Weekend Warriors and I agree with the others - it looked quite authentic.
to the forum! I too have seen it done with a circular saw set at a low depth of cut - just have to keep those cuts straight is all !
i saw that on an episode of Changing Rooms...they did it with a circular saw set at a really low depth....maybe talk a look at their website...sorry i wasn't much help
