Is sage green getting dated??

Not that I pick paint colours by what's in style or anything  , but just for interest sake....

We built our house 4 years ago and our colours are sage green, hunter green, wine, and tan. White trim. All rich earthy tones. I know sage green especially was really 'in' at the time, but I still love all these colours and would use them again. I think I would bump the sage green a shade darker though. Anyways, what do you think are the 'up and coming' colours for the next couple of years? Is sage green still popular? Our style is clean country.

i saw the pic of your kitchen in the other post....i love the green you used....i had green in my kitchen before we painted it neutral (resale color) lol and im almost considering using some type of green in the kitchen of the new house....i love the bright fresh clean look it offers and it looks really nice accented in black and white fabrics. Someone had did a laundry room in green, perhaps a little more on the yellow tones but very close to your color, and they added black and white toile and some black accents it was beautiful....so i would certainly say its not dated, and as someone else said, if you love it, than that is what matters......

I think many shades of green are considered trendy due to the publicity of environmental issues etc. Didn't either House and Home or Style at Home recently have a "green" issue? Many of the decor schemes where actually green in color I believe. I love green, and all earthy colors, so maybe I'm biased.

Oh good, thanks for the comments. Our green is BM dry sage, and I just love it. I'm totally not into keeping up with trends, but just wondering if sage is to 2005 what wedgewood blue and dusty rose were to the early 90's. :p I still love the colour, and will likely use it again. :)

I agree, greens are always around but if you are looking to stay cutting edge vs something that has been around for a few years it seems to me the newer green has a little more yellow or blue in it. I hope sage stays a while as that is what my house is painted.

Sages never really go out. They just take on a different hue each year... but Luv is correct - green is always fashionable just in different variations..:-)

Based on my store, sage is a perennial favourite.

I have heard one designer say that green is always in style.

Colours change all the time and you be going bankrupt trying to keep with the "in" colours.

I had blue grey wall in the hallway for about 15 years or so and the grey colour is still "in", so guess what we're going to repaint our halls with, yes, grey in another shade though with no blue in it.

The "in" colours change every year -- you'd always be painting your house if you tried to keep up with the hot new colours!!

As long as you love the colours in your house, that's all that matters. Personally, I don't think sage green is a "trendy" colour -- it works well with lots of different design styles, woods, etc., so it's unlikely to go out of favour.

Gray seems to be the new "in" colour -- but I swear, we painted our ensuite and bedroom gray before it became trendy!! :) Pink & brown combinations also seem to be hot now.
