saving seeds

Hi all you gardeners. I am just wondering about something and need some expert advice. I noticed that some of my annuals are "going to seed". I have some new wave mini petunias that are loaded with seeds. My question is can I save them and plant them next year? I hae also noticed them on regular petunias. I love the new wave version and would like to try on my own. Thanks everyone...

I collect seed every year from most of my plants. When the seed pods turn brown I gather the seed.If you find that some pods are breaking open as you touch them just hold a paper bag under to catch them.I lay out the seed on paper plates till dry and then put into small envelopes and label.I start my seeds in late winter under lights but you can sow most right in the garden in spring. If your plants are hybrids, there is no sense in keeping seed as the plants from them will not look like the plants you took the seed from.Very easy and very economical, just make sure seed packets are kept in a cool dry place.

sure you can save and plant next year. You may find depending on what zone you are in that they will take forever.

In zone 5 I just buy new plants as seeds are very slow to mature into a bloomimg plant.
