OK

I have read the book. Have I received everything I have wished for. No! (I also didn't really think that I would). But I have certainly come to appreciate -more- what I do have and find I am not "wishing" for much. I think I look at or think of some situations differently - I could also attribute that to being a year older and wiser too.
Reginagirl, in terms of the couple you know - good for them for taking the "opportunity to sell their house high and buy low". Many people I know, looked at the house they owned realized how much they could get for it and then signed onto an even bigger mortgage for that even bigger house. Was your friends' decision a result of the book? Maybe, for the reason they relooked at what was important to them and maybe a mortgaged house wasn't that. It is their perogative to claim it was all the book - I think they were just looking at their life differently.
I must say I received more inspiration from Randy Pausch's Last Lecture (the book).
I've also been intrigued with it but since meeting several converts they do appear to be brainwashed. They all chant that it works, it really works. I'm Sooooo skeptical. I can't believe that if I sat around my house all day wishing and hoping it would magically all get fixed purely by the positive thoughts in my brain that it would.
It is MY drive and desire that gets desired results. MY efforts. Not some mumbo jumbo from a book. We are all capable of bettering our lives if we want to and if someone needs to be motivated by reading The Secret that is great. I suppose I believe more in "you get what you give". I just don't believe your life magically changes for the better if you sit and do nothing other than hope and wish.
As for someones salary doubling I just find that too hard to believe without more proof.
It's kind of sad how much money the creators of this stuff have made off of other peoples dissatisfaction with their lives. Many, many people are looking for something to cling on to when they themselves are really all they need.
& in adding if you surround yourself with postive thinkers and ambitious souls - it surely will rub off.
Nothing gets me more down in the dumps than having to hear or hang out with others who do a lot of complaining and see no end to their personal misery with what life has thrown their way & see absolutely no way out of their black hole of he(double hockey sticks) !!
You then just want to knock them over the head with the hard cover of THE SECRET !!
:p
I have always believed in the power of postive thinking and or the glass is half full or law of attraction philosphy.
This is no SECRET to me.
I can usually find the good in an uneventful & poor or bad situation.
I am not saying that rain doesn't ever fall in my life. I am usually prepared or can plan for a monsoon should it happen.
Somehow, the sun eventually does shine.
& no doubt it will get cloudy and rain again.
:)
Thanks for your reply! I was intriged by a Facebook group about it. One person wrote this " My husband and I's ultimate goal was to pay off our mortgage and be mortgage free. And also bring us to a level of somewhat financial freedom, basically having money sitting around for us to use a our leisure rather then living paycheque to paycheque. Its been 5 months since we watched The Secret. In this 5 months, we've sold our house, made $170,000 (profit) bought a new place that we were able to pay cash for (good feeling I tell ya) and still have money left over...my husbands job has doubled in pay (no shitting) Its an amazing amazing thing to know that you CAN have everything you want and dreamed of."
Could have possibly made that kind of money because the market was HOT and now its cold? This woman just sounds brainwashed to me!
Yes I read it. many of my friends have either read it or watched the DVD. Take from it what you will. There are some people that totally misinterpret the full meaning of what it sets out. ie I know of a CEO that forced his hundreds of employees to read it. Well let say he totally missed the point and now makes his emplyees work double their load and work like dogs. Are they getting anything out of it? NO He gets a big fat bonus 600K and they get nothing extra for all their hard work. Let's just say the employees are now pi$$ed with how much they have to do. ....the curse the book. ps They have no idea how much his bonus is this year.
I used some of what is in it. Some I find a bit far fetched as did my friends. Actually I like it more then my friends did. They found it to be way out there and absurd.
Life changing......not really. I found Eckhart Tolle's The Power if Now and The New Earth much for meaningful, realistic and useful..
I think there is supposed to be The Secret part 2 coming out soon.
