I'm just returning after being away for a while and am wondering...what's the code I have to fill in sometimes to get things to post? Is there a way to make it go away (speaking as someone who really gets a twitchy nerve when extra steps are involved if she isn't convinced they are necessary)?

Absolutely - we've had a devil of a time with spammers, and the new measures seem to be returning a level of normality - it's not easy, and they get pretty sophisticated. Think of the Captchas as spot checks, when our system isn't quite sure if your post might be automatically generated - it's just a 'are you human' quick test.
Well if it's necessary to stop spam I suppose I can be convinced. Now to figure out why it's only some of the time and also how to get notices of replies...

Welcome back DBD. Since they have installed that extra step of the code, we have had basically no spam come through at all. I don't have to do the code every time I post though and not sure why - maybe it recognizes my name, etc. It might be a P.I.T.A. but on the whole, I think it is worth it.
