Well since you bought the matt , use it and see what happens.
Thanks so much for the reply, DBD! You always come through! I went ahead and bought the matte Tremclad. Can I just spray over the semi-gloss? Or do I have to buy the rottenstone and rub it down like you suggested?
do what the pros do, buff sand it back a bit. Usually they use a product called rottenstone which is a very fine pumice powder you mix with a bit of water and start rubbing until you have it down to the sheen you want. This is just enough to take the gloss down to a matt. A lot of refinishers like doing this because traditionally the gloss finish is harder than a matt so they do high gloss then buff it back.
You could start with something stronger like fine steel wool, but the rottenstone takes away the lines things like that leave. You might even try very fine steel wool and follow it up with something like a cream toothpaste (not a gel) as often that has enough abrasive in it to smooth out fine lines.
What you don't want to do is to actually take the finish off, just the sheen.
