Hi everyone.
I was watching Home to Go on HGTV a little while ago and he used Sheet Metal as a backsplash in the kitchen. I love the look of stainless but can't afford it at the moment, does anyone know if the sheet metal would hold up? What would the pros and cons be?
Thanx

If you find it in GTA, let me know. I've looked around for it but haven't been able to find it at the usual canadian tire, home depot, etc.
rustoleum makes an appliance epoxy for appliances and i do believe it comes in a stainless steel finish. check out their website. it may not be available in canada but you could call around. hope this helps :)
Where can I get this? I've seen various metallic and grey type paints, but never one that is stainless.
Hi,
Just stumbled across your thread and joined as a member!
We used aluminum roof flashings (Home Depot) US$9 for 12 ft. and it works well. It cuts easy too so you can just use a sharp blade but make sure you have something to protect your work surface. Please keep in mind that the edges are very sharp so I would recommend if you use a protective glove. The only difficult bit was to measure (2x) and cut the trim for the electric outlets. When we bought this house, the previous owners just put white tiles on the splashback but we thought it looked bland with the white cupboards so I thought of the splashback which obviously is so much cheaper than going to the professional kitchen suppliers. At the moment, we attach them using double sided tape (heavy-duty) just in case we move -we would take down the aluminum so isn't permanent. It's really your call on whether you want to use a more permanent agent.
We're very happy on how it turned out, it looks so chic and understated without the overblown budget. Cleaning is also very easy.
Actually, I'm sure I saw that episode of Home to go as well and I knew he mentioned using sheet metal from the air-con/roof department.
Well, good luck on your project (although the last msg was in April but it's worth a shot, I think).
I would chose laminate over sheet metal. Sheet metal can rust, even though it is gavlanized. Also, you can but a real stainless steel (316) paint. I haven't tried it yet, but plan to paint a fridge soon.
There is a laminate product that looks just like stainless and it's very inexpensive, you can get it anyplace that sells counter top laminates.
