from argentina 2001 Finca el Retiro- Syrah & Thierry and Guy/ 2002/ FAT bastard (yes - you read that right) from france...salut!
I find the Aussie shiraz is like a great freind...it just keeps on giving. That is something I found hard to match without getting into a much higher priced wine. Our absolute fav. that works with beef or even spicy Thai is Mcguiggans Black Label Shiraz. Yum.
My husband and I lived in Melbourne for 4 years and couldn't get enough of their reds! Now back in Canada, we are obviously limited. Wolf Blass, any of the Coonawarra or Michelton wines from Australia are very good. Next best country for Shiraz in our house is Chile. Try Santa Rita or Santa Carolina Reserves but they might be Cab Sav options but definitely worth the try!!
Okay, I'm a bit of a fan of Aussie wines, and I just had to add this one in the event you haven't tried it. Wolf Blass Black Label Shiraz Cabernet. It's a very nice wine. It's a definite top 3.
Lindemans, and Hardy's are also really good. Inexpensive, and has a very distinctive taste. They say you can tell a good wine by the length and depth of spritz on the back of the tongue, and both of these have a short tingle, but could probably match many others of higher cost.
Another one that I'm fond of is Jade Mountain but it's really hard to find here, you can usually find it in specialty stores. IT's more expensive than others (about $25 per bottle) but it's flavourful. It's a Californian wine, if i recall correctly. Haven't had it in about 2 years now....
We had a great one from South Africa, will try to find the label...Shiraz/ Syrah is my favorite! Always on the look out also, so if there is something you recommend pls. tell. Cheers:-)
