Shower Stall Base

We have a perfectly good shower in the basement, but the base itself has discolored over the years and I'm wondering what paint I could use that would clean it up and last. I've heard melamine is good but will it work on the fiberglass bases. Well I think it's fiberglass, but I could be wrong.

Not sure how big a project it would be, but you might want to even consider removing the base and using another material for your shower. We have green slate tiles and they are gorgeous in my opinion!

Thanks for that CLR cleaning tip. It is a flexible surface that has a non skid pattern, but the key word here is flex and the paint would have to do that. Maybe just getting a new base would solve the problem.

If it's just stained, look for a good cleaning product first. CLR makes a bathroom cleaner that can be used on plastics without harm so that might be a good start (it's also biodegradable, yellow container). The thing with painting fiberglass is the paint would need to be flexible unless that fiberglass is completely totally glued solid. I also wouldn't go painting the floor unless it was a slip proof paint.

If you can find a good paint, I would think you'd need a really good adhesion primer like Zinsser to make sure it holds well.

I think marine paint might last longer. Have you tried bleaching what's there now, soaking it in bleach?
