I am trying to plan a garden alongside the fence in the pic (where the barrel is).The area is mainly shady . I was thinking of a couple 5 ft shrubs on each side with a fuller low one in the middle with some kind of colour thrown in. Any ideas. I was also thinking of rocks or mulch and solar lights too. Need some names of shrubs and plants. I am not good with species and varieties. Thanks

When I saw your garden area I thought of this house from the May 2000 issue of H and H. It think it is kind of a nice layout although with your garden you would probably want to add some tall shrubs like you mentioned.
There are lots of forum members on here that are more experienced gardeners than me but some good shade plants that I can think of are hostas, ferns, astilbe, impatients, japanese grass, soloman seal, dogwood, heuchera...
I hope you get lots more suggestions though...
