Slugs

What do they look like? I've planted a hosta in my front bed and having read that hostas are the most common plants to have slugs, I'm afraid my hosta will get them. Is there any way I can prevent this from happening?

sprinking hot red pepper flakes around your hostas - works well:)

You can sprinkle salt around them and that will keep the slugs away.

They eat at night and you rarely see them ...I have tried the bait you can buy and hide under flat rocks which they seem to go for...but some years are definitely worse than others. I am trying crushed brick which they apparently cannot slide over...and the newest trick I have read is crushed egg shells. I have some very large hosta and the damage is not as noticeable. They must grow leaves faster than those things can eat...Also those slugs do not like heat or sun ( neither do hosta) but a rainy week will have them out in full force. Norm
