Have you had your birthday trip to Vegas yet? I'm sitting in a lobby right now. We are leaving tomorrow and I don't have the energy to do anything. I've had so much food I don't even have the energy to eat lunch. Maybe when you come you can pick up some of the $ I left behind. The weather is 77 today but gets cool at night. They keep the casinos too cool imo and I need a sweater or wrap even on a hot day.
A couple of decorating things - I'd like electric operated curtains and the tv monitor right in the mirror was so cool. I couldn't figure out what the dark square was at first. The only problem was brushing your teeth and having some hot looking tv star looking back at you.
The absolute worst - not because it wasn't glamourous - was the mirror-like tile floor in a washroom. I glanced down while in the stall and realized I could see right into the next stalls. Stupid design and I bet they spent a fortune on it.

An 'experience' is what you should have for a special birthday. I've often wondered how those helicopter trips were - not that I'll be taking one - I used to have the chance to go up for work and no way no how, not for me.
I'm glad the machines didn't empty your pockets so you could look in the stores and not feel guilty. The shopping is amazing but I become claustrophoic in the the ones attached to the casinos. I'm a bit this way in the local neighbourhood malls too - I have to know exactly where the exit is. I always wonder who buys some of these goods - the stores can be so pricey. I just look around for inspiration.
The crowds are incredible and try to imagine if you were there for a major event weekend - I've experienced that - solid sidewalk. DH & I like to walk fairly fast and the one rule in life that we've figured out is that the slow pokes seem to take the whole sidewalk. This seems true everywhere though.
I've never seen O or Blue Man. Timing was off. Just missed Jay Leno - one of these days. I never tire of the fountains at Bellagio.
Sadly, I didn't win a fortune and quit my job  But then, I was only playing 1 cent and 5 cent games, which isn't the best way to get rich!! ;) I found two games that I liked -- The Frog Princess and Men In Black. I probably came out a bit ahead -- I think I won around $75 in total. One day, I put $1.00 in a slot machine, and ended up playing off that $1.00 for maybe 1.5 hours over the course of the day. That's cheap entertainment!!
As for the rest of the trip -- it was mostly good. The lights were amazing to look at, the size of the buildings boggled my mind, and the malls were beyond extravagant. Miracle Mile Shops was my favourite -- the sky painted on the ceiling there is awesome. The helicopter ride over the strip was short but very cool. The helicopter trip to the Grand Canyon totally rocked. Although we almost didn't make it. A girl on our copter freaked out when we took off -- she was screaming and crying and told the pilot to go back. Luckily, she calmed down and we were able to keep going. We flew over Lake Mead and the Hoover Dam and landed at the bottom of the Canyon. We had a picnic lunch there and wandered around a bit to take pics.
As for the shows -- O was..... well, kinda weird. Parts of it were amazing, but other parts of it seemed like some sort of weird Scooby Doo dream sequence or something  I preferred Blue Man Group. We were in the poncho section, but only ended up getting a bit twinkied. It was a fun show. It was a lot easier to understand than O!!
We didn't eat anywhere near as much as I thought we would. There were lots of places I wanted to check out, but we didn't get to most of them. Vegas must be the only place you eat supper at midnight!!
The fountains at the Bellagio were awesome to watch.
The people everywhere just wore me down. I'm not great in crowds, and Vegas is the most crowded place I've ever been. There's always a sea of faces coming at you  There are people EVERYWHERE -- you can't get away from them. I tripped trying to get around some people in the conservatory at the Bellagio and ended up falling down and cutting my hand. And I got my other hand squashed in a cab door
All in all, it was an experience -- but I don't think I'll be going back any time soon.
jan maybe she has won a fortune and quit her job and left the country and us  ;)
smiles

Did you win a major jackpot so you can decorate to your heart's content and not have to put up with the dweeb at work? Hope so.
Well, I'm packed and ready to go!! I was walking the dogs earlier in my quiet suburban neighbourhood and thinking about how in another 10 hours, I'll be in loud, bright, crowded, crazy Vegas!! It's going to be a real shock to my system!!!
Hubby is planning to bring a bday cake onto the plane so I can celebrate being 29 ;) at 30,000ft :)
Thanks for the tips, jan :) Too bad we weren't both in Vegas at the same time!!
We're planning to go to the light show -- that's on Fremont Street, yes??
I have a feeling this trip will be our only trip to Vegas, but maybe I'll pick up a Player's card just in case :)
Thanks for the bday wishes jan & bigmama :) Yikes -- only one more day till I'm.... 29 :D
We stayed at the Flamingo. We got a great room and I could have waved at you if had been at the Bellagio. They used to have one of the best buffets but it went down hill for awhile. I see it seems popular again. Consider it for breakfast. Watch for the lady/showgirl handing out -$5 coupons outside Harrahs square. This is not one of those people trying to get you to listen to a high pressure time share or one of those people passing out the picture post cards selling something else.
Harrah's is my favourite evening buffet - save room for the home made ice cream. Wynn's is supposed to have an incredible buffet. If you are downtown for the light show, go over to Main Steet and have a fresh brew and the buffet - not as fancy as some but still great.
Yes - bring your runners - you will walk a long way.
If you are thinking of returning, get a Player's card so they can track your spending. The offers to return can be incredible.
Bring lots of $$$ - nothing is cheap anymore. Fashion Square Mall is huge.
Happy b'day and have a great time.
Have a GREAT TRIP and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! :D
Well, Britney Spears spends a lot of time in Vegas. And we know she likes to flash her...... ummmmm...... you know, PARTS to anyone who'll look. And she obviously isn't bright. I think we have our culprit!! ;)
My cousin told me Brit Brit is taking flying lessons in Vegas. The trainwreck can't drive a car -- heck, she can't even brush her hair  Who the hell is going to let her behind the controls of a plane?!?!?
Thanks janetc and BRgal :) I hope we have as much fun as everyone tells us we'll have!!
I'm so jealous of the both of you.
Mirror-like floors in a washroom have to be a sign there wasn't a woman involved (or at least a bright one) in the design.
:fireworks :confetti: have a GREAT birthday Smoodgie and a WONDERFUL trip.............
Jan, i bet you arent missing us one bit
see ya both soon....
enjoy!

Have lots of fun!
:)
Hey jan :) Haven't gone yet -- two more days!! We leave on Thursday :)
Where did you stay?? And where did you eat?? I've heard there are awesome buffets in Vegas!! I'm going to have to do a LOT of walking, 'cause I have a feeling I'm going to do a LOT of eating!! :D We're going with friends who are staying at the Wynn. We're staying at the Bellagio, so a few walks between the two should help :)
Electric operated curtains?! Cool!! I've seen those in-the-mirror TVs on decorating shows -- freaky!! And yeah, could be a bit weird to have somebody standing in your face while you're brushing your teeth!!
Mirror-like floors???!!! YIKES!!!!! That's too weird!!!
