Solution to ugly beams under my deck

Hello, I live in a raised ranch (so the ground floor is on the second floor and the basement is a walk-out) and have a large deck off my kitchen/dining/living rooms. The under side of my deck is quite ugly and is visible while sitting in our basement family room. We were hoping to install "under-decking" or some sort of under deck roof product to create a ceiling effect on the underside of the deck. However, because of the way our deck was built, our contractor is worried that these products will retain water and compromise the deck. Does anyone have any solutions on how we can pretty the underside of the deck up. Would staining it help? Also there is exposed wire for some of the electrical work for the backyard. Anyway that could be hidden? Exposed wiresExposed wires underside of my deckunderside of my deck

Just a further question to my above post. We had a great deal of landscapping done last summer, which involved the contractor removing a great deal of soil from one side of my house. This exposed an ugly black lining (?? I'm not sure of the proper name). What would I need to do to make this more attractive?
