ltd.....I bought boxes of moth balls....but not sure if that helped.....put them outside after we caught most of the mice....the only weird thing...when the snow melted ...you could smell them in the basement even though I had thrown them around the perimeter of the house...( the moth balls that is)....we were painting the deck the other day and I got a wiff of them....so they are still potent!.....
dbd.....that's exactly where they come into my house between the wall of the old house and the new addition...you may have found your spot!!!
No mice talk! That reminds me to go buy a bag of cement. While painting the fence I noticed a huge, major, big hole in my foundation (between where old and new part of house are). I missed it totally because it's kind of hidden by a fence post. I don't know if it even gives access to the house but I won't be taking chances.
Meanwhile all those critters must be interesting to your kids. Do they like seeing all these new animals?
TTD, have you tried putting moth balls outside around the perimeter of the house.......I did that during our mice problem and it helped plus of course we threw bromone bags into the attic as well.
The only thing I'll warn you about the moth balls is to be careful with young children around.
hey dbd....its worth a try......I did buy a can of " Critter Ridder" from HD.....and spinkled the area around my garage to keep away the skunks and raccoons...they were digging there way in the garage to where the garbage was stored and making a big mess...............and that stuff "worked!!!".....it is basically red pepper cayenne and they hate it....you do have to re-sprinkle after it rains or after 30 days whichever comes first......it can get expensive to use year round...but the skunk thing seemed to only happen in the spring when the daddy skunk is looking for food for the youngens back in the nest......I may try it in the gardens to keep the squirrels away...and don't forget those dreaded mice return in the fall..................ACK!!!!!!!!!!! its been so nice to be living without that fear....but they do return don't they!............double yuck........
I don't know if these things work, but last year Home Depot had a solar powered squirrel repellent thing. It did that ultrasonic noise thing. You just stuck it in the ground and it looked a bit like a solar light. I wonder if that would work on the voles, snakes, and other critters.
thanks everyone...but finding a dead mouse in the skimmer this morning put me off today... .it is still floating there until my husband gets home!....I want to disinfect the entire pool...............double yuck....it is actually a vole..those black looking mice with a snout..................my husband had flipped him over the fence a few days before after he found himself on the pool cover.....but he found his way back....it is very dry here and many animals are looking for water....I have a black bird with a red belly that comes to the deep end and sits on the first step and drinks the water....its a salt water pool....just wondering if that will kill it!....like I said before I live amongst a zoo........last week it was a toad...don't forget the snake on the deck too......always something!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great job! Your yard looks like a very restful space.
Boy have you got my idea of heaven. Established garden, lattice fence, pool, nice hardscaping. I am officially jealous. I think you should also know that it's hitting 31 here today and I am still painting my rickety fence out in the hot sun. The thought of having a nice pool like that to fall into is almost more than I can bear. You make sure to go enjoy your yard for me while I'll just go crank up the hose and mist myself every once and awhile.
What a fantastic job you've done and to incorporate the whole family in it is even better. You've got a very spacious backyard and lovely gardens too...good for you.......enjoy :)
