my oldest DD is turning 18...........OH MY GOSH I CANT BELIEVE IT.....EIGHTEEN!!! anyway, i was wondering if any of you have ideas of something special we can get her. She already has birthstone, ear rings, necklace and ring and daughters pride i want to give her when she graduates. She just wants some regular gift, but do you think it should be something they have forever.

Janet, If your dd really just wants something "regular", then I would suggest that is the route to go. You can save the "forever" gifts for a time when she will want them and truly appreciate them. An expensive watch, or clock or jewelery will just sit in a drawer, while a trendy outfit, shoes or boots, an electronic gift, silver bangles or earrings, etc., will be enjoyed now...on her special birthday.

her birthday was yesterday, she was very pleased to get a new cell phone and the watch i bought was just an everyday watch, so i feel we did the right thing. Joanna you made some very good points, it certainly is how teens or shall i say my young adult would think and the girls all have a hugh tote of keepsakes from over the years.

samking, this DD loves to still have an everyday watch, she is so scheduled ;) however, my other two DD's dont wear a watch and do exactly what you said, telling the time on thier cell phones. She had a good day, we all went out to her favorite chinese restaurant and on the weekend she is having a party with friends.

poorgirl, that would have been a fun thing to do.... good idea for one day when i can get to the pictures that are buried under a stack of blankets in the spare room closet, another thing that hasnt been done since we moved here :D

sweetpea............they certainly do grow up fast, seemed like yesterday when she became our sweet DD. She was thrilled with her gifts.

thanks ladies

If you have the time... (now I have done this but for myself) I would put together a picture caullage for her 18 years or a scrapebook.

I did a picture caullage on a thick bristalboard that I bought at Michaels and then took it to the printers and she put a hard plastic coating on it. I have it hanging in the hall by the bathroom door. Everyone stops to look at it.
I did this for my 40th birthday, I used pictures all the way from when the girls were born up to my bd party. I put in some captions and words, love laugh, friends forever, such at that.
I overlapped most of the pictures and cut out everthing that wasn't important, used a spray adhesive to stick them with. put them every which way. Not much thought involved but lots of memories for everyone. It always gets a smile even now after a few years of having it up we still stop and look and point and laugh.

You know what I noticed, younger kids today are not really needing too many watches. They use their cell phones frequently and check the time.

Times are a changing :)

I trust & hope your dd has a very nice & memorable b day:confetti:

yes sweetpea, she is officially 18.....and i did get her a watch and was deciding on something to go with it when her cell phone broke down, so i took the practical and easy way out and also purchased her a new phone

samking, i really like your idea of the clock and i would have got a nice engraving on it...perhaps i could use this idea for a grad gift
