Our new front door is ready, and we want to stain it. The instruction sheet on the manufacturer's website calls for "high quality, opaque, heavily pigmented, oil-based stain" and it says gel stains can also be used.
Any recommendations? I thought we could only use gel stain, so I picked up a colour flyer yesterday and I wasn't impressed with the range of colours avaialble. I'm going to go to Rona today and see if they have different brands there.
We always use BM paint and we also need to paint our new garage doors in a co-ordinating colour. Would we be able to get oil-based stain in any colour at BM? DH wants it to be a "wood colour" whatever that means.

I think wood colour means brown :(
If this door is exposed to the weather go and take a look at Sikkens, opaque, oil stain. It's really good exterior stain (for wood, not sure on the fiberglass but if it says that is what you use they must have tested it) and lasts a lot longer than other stains so it's worth the price. I can tell you with exterior stains, unless you want to be redoing them every couple of years, it pays to get good stuff as the sun and weather can really beat the stuff up.
