I was going to ask what the update is on these boys coming over to yours? We have a platform bed like the first one, we got it from IKEA in that darker wood, I find that I sleep a lot better now, and they are really good. No more high beds for us :)
I highly recommend him.

give me 64" wide and I will be happy.
I am the DH and would like to know if anyone has any final comments on this...redheron...what do you think of 60'-62.5' height for the headboard and 62.5' width?
I just googled Platform beds and that is a site I got:

I really like those beds.....
from what site/store are they from?
thanks
Here are photos of 3 platform beds with headboards. The mattress is in the actually box which has nothing to do with the headboard. You can have the box the same size as mattress and then make the headboard whatever size you want.
I can see your point of having the width of the headboard at 65-66", but then won't that also make the space inside the platform (Box Spring to go inside platform box) even bigger. There will be 2.5 inches around the box spring. Won't that look odd and won't the box spring move around?
suggested 65" wide , not high for a Queen sized bed, in agreement with Red's comment about the weeny flood bed. 48" would be a minimum height for this look. You don't want to hide that tufting. The headboard should be wider than the bed and then the duvet doesn't stick out beyond the headboard.
your daughter and her dad did a beautiful job on the headboard...nice room and Cameron Mcneil is very talented and can work wonders with small spaces

Here is another site showing the designer Cameron McNeil making a headboard.
He chose 48 inches high by 60 inches wide.
By the way, just spoke with my daughter and hers is 48 inches high by 64 inches wide.

Thanks for the website....Although it seems to be more DIY, I am trying to use ideas for it for the height and width.
I have book marked it for later reading, thanks. :)
Have you tried going to this site for some helpful ideas and tips.

makes the bed look weeny.... like bad floods...
What do you mean by floods...lol...
with a 60" mattress I would do a 66" wide headboard - this will avoid it looking like floods!!!
I would say she has standard ceilings. I defineately know the width is 64 inches and the photo even shows this because you can see the sides sticking out from the 60 inch matress. But now I am starting to doubt what I said about 66 inches high. Because the photo does not look like it is higher than the width. My daughter is not at home so I cannot ask her to measure it for me. Maybe later tonight.
Your daughter seems to have done a beautiful job with the headboard. Thank you for providing me with a visual. I think I might go for a 60-62.5" height. I really like the height of your daughter's headboard. Does she have standard 8' ceilings or lower, higher? I don't want it to look too tall, but still act as a focal point to the room.
Maybe this will help. My daughter made this headboard with her Dad. It is not tufted like you want but just to give you an idea of the size. Her bed is Queen, so 60 inches wide and she made the headboard 64 inches wide. She made the height 66 inches but did not attach it to bed. She attached it to wall by the cleat system so she can lower or heighten it if she wants at another time. When the pillows and shams are up like in this photo, I think the height looks good but when the pillows are down flat on bed, it looks too tall in my opinion. She used board and then 1 inch foam and then dacron and then faux leather. If she were doing it again, she would used thicker foam. So I think your 3 inch is a good idea.
Mattress width is 60"
width? Is it 60"?
We're going to need to take duvet coverage into account here too.
one too many glasses of wine when I posted #49. Box spring -- I meant to write "box spring" not "mattress". A bed without a mattress -- oh my God!!
The total dimensions are: Height: unknown (between 48" and 66") Width: 62.5", Depth: 4" (1" board and 3" foam - wanted a little luxury feel and look - was actually thinking of making it thicker...what do you say?) Length of Platform: 82.5", Legs: 3.75", Box Spring in platform: 10" and Mattress 14".
What do you think?
Our Box spring will sit inside the platform so all you will see is the upholstered platform and our mattress....it'll only be 27.75" off the ground.
are meant to be used without a mattress.
we have a platform bed.
it sits on a box...
with our box spring and mattress it is very very high...
almost a jump for me.
I think the platform was meant just for a mattress not both...
we are thinking of getting rid of box spring...only it has to go over 3rd floor deck to leave the house...maybe in the Spring....??
I'm just mentioning this, because if you like the sleek look, bigger isn't always better.
I think it's diamond tufting I am getting...so I told the upholsterer...I think we gave him 25 yards or a little more of leather.

Diamond Tufting vs. Button Tufting? Diamond requires double the fabric which can mean seaming.
Foam wise - 3" foam isn't the standard. Usually there is 2" foam with dacron on top to soften. Diamond tufting is an artform but is TOTALLY worth every penny!
What are the overall dimensions you were thinking of making the headboard - I just want to make sure I'm not confused.
