I don't really know what to do. Last month I planted some flowers under the tree . Nothing fancy, bought what ever was in grocery store. Then on the weekend one day somebody stole 2 flowers, another day another 2 got missing. So I thought OK, it's just beginning of the planting season and somebody probably does their 'shopping' on neighborours front yards. So I removed the rest of plants an replanted couple weeks later. I thought everybody got the plants by that time for sure. Guess what? This weekend again some flowers were missing. I don't know. I live in this area 3d year and first 2 years everything was just fine. But this year - wrong people moved in. How do I fight?

Jeep I remember my car before this one. Well DH came to pick me up one day at work and I thought he was in an accident!! A HUGE dent in my door!!! he was at the mall so who knows???
No I did not end up paying ..I think the man was in shock that I stayed and waited for him. He thought I was nuts.. lol.. it was a really really tiny mark and he said he would not even noticed it unless I pointed it out. I felt awful just the same. I am sooo careful now when I drive something different.
A more common problem that is developing around here is the theft of flowers in pots or urns. Some of these are darn heavy so they must be coming prepared. Inexpensive or pricey, it doesn't matter. Someone put work and effort into making their place nice.
Years ago I knew a guy who was having his veggie garden raided regularly. He wasn't much of a techie but set up a camera to be triggered. It caught a couple of neighbourhood teenagers. He went and talked to them directly and they were sincerely apologetic. He got them to do some services for someone else in the community. It would be rare area where you'd want to try this nowadays. Too many weirdos you wouldn't want to approach.
Bigmamma - did they ask you to pay anything? That was a really excellent example you set for your children. :applaud:
Yes I just spent $300 having my new car repainted where someone either hit it or keyed it not very nice I can say.
Wow the flower stealing is pathetic.
Oh and the dinging of cars etc is too. I did ding a van once years ago ..I was driving my MIL car and she has bigger doors and I accidentally hit a new van ..I was just sick...but I did stay until the owners came out of the store and offered to pay for ding... I was so embarrassed and I felt like crap!! :o It was very very small the size of a small kernel of corn but still...
The first thing I tell my boys is I have to see the room left for the door opening. I think I have them well trained now on opening slowly and mom opens them on a windy day.lol.
I think the parking spaces are way too small sometimes as well! :hairpull:
How true. My last Lexus was a ding magnet. I'd purposefully park a long walk from the store and still get dinged. Spiteful people out there. I have never dinged another vehicle ever!
Janetc, do tell.
It's funny you mention how hard you work to buy things and have someone steal them. The theives don't look at it like that, they assume you have lots of money and wouldn't probably miss it. I have often told myself it isn't worth having a nice shiny new car because it feels awful when you get that first couple of dings from shopping carts or someone elses car door opening beside you in a parking lot.
wow, this is pathetic.....it really is sad when you work your butt off to have a nice home and yard and somebody comes along and does this. I hope for you this stops. There has been things in our neighbourhood that have been rather displeasing, for now im biting my tongue but i wont forever. All the best!

I would have said that I couldn't believe someone would do such a spiteful and aggressive thing, but a whole hedge was dug up and stolen from in front of my university...twice!!! Some people might think that what they are doing is funny, but IMO it is rather sick!!! Sorry to hear your story, Mrs, Fancy!
thank you for solidarity. Yesterday i put the sign, but it was pouring rain, so i'll have my flowers for a while. I have to say it wasn't something extraordinary, just annuals $2 for pot or $2 for 4 pieces and every house has those type of flowers.
Anyway, in worst case scenario i'll prepare 'memorial plate' for the flower bed as dbd recommended.
Gee that sucks. Some people can be such jerks. I think i'd leave it without flowers and just post a sign saying after having flowers stolen twice, this area will just go without. Thanks to the thieves for ruining everyone's experience at your expense.
In my old neighbourhood someone had the nicest big concrete sculpture of a man in a bathtub in the front and it got stolen. They put up a really large sign for all to see saying it had been stolen. It sure got attention and gave the rest of us a head's up to watch for the thing. To this day, if I ever see it, I will report whoever it is for having it but if they hadn't put up the sign, no one around would have known it was stolen.
Stolen Flowers,,,,now that just sucks
What about a 'Pesticide' sign? Even if you didn't spray, it would keep most ppl off your property.
Otherwise plant something that no-one wants, or that the entire neighbourhood has like daylilies, rubekia etc.
please be careful with planting the poison ivy (if you get that far). I think, you could technically be held liable if something serious were to happen to your thief(s).
My aunt and uncle had to jump through hoops to TRY and protect themselves from the trespassing snowboarders, who were snowboarding off my aunt and uncle's garage roof. If one of the trespassing snowboarders were injured on their property they were told they would be held liable...
Seriously....the nerve of some people!!
Definitely try the sign...its the "mature" thing to do...however, part of me would feel like planting poison ivy as Jeep suggested. Kinda serves them right.
I will give you a rash that itches like crazy like having a thousand mosquito bites.
i forgot to mention my house is a corner house and many people go by with kids/dogs etc. if i install motion detector attached to sprinklers, i quess my grass would be watered a lot!! :)
this poison ivy is it really that poisonous?
I'll put some sign and will see the response.
You can put up a sign as Just me said or maybe plant some poison ivy that will have them scratchingor do what we did buy a sprinkler that is motion activated and then they will get soaked when they walk on your lawn. We bought it for dogs and it worked pretty good so I think it would work for plant thieves as well. If nothing else you will hear them scream when they get a blast of cold water in the face and what are they going to say they shouldn't have been there in the first place.
Put a little sign up for them 'I can see you from my house, leave my flowers alone!'
