Believe it or not, I actually store my winter coats and other heavy clothing at my mom's house. She lives very close to me and has tons of room in her closets.
We are in a condo. I have several garment bags and twice a year my husband makes the switch. He has put a rod in our locker downstairs so the bags can hang. Each year as the winter go down and summer comes up I try try try to give things I haven't been wearing to Big Brothers, however, it usually takes a day to make the switch and decisions!! Oh yes, I also keep one bag for vacation clothes so if we suddenly decide to go somewhere sunny all those clothes are together.
in plastic is not supposed to be a good idea, though I'm not sure why. I'm lucky I finally have lots of storage finally, but in our last house I had my stuff in Rubbermaid totes! Sorry I'm not much help...
That's where I've been known to store some of my off season clothes. No sense in storing an empty suitcase, right? You can always find another place to store them short term if you need the suitcase.
