Strange observation

I grew from seed black pennys and shock wave petunias and put them into two planters with a clumps of optic grass (so cute!). It's the strangest thing, because one planter is thriving and the other is doing okay. They grew from the same seed, have the same soil, same planter and same location. they both have the same fertilizer (the slow release) and have been watered at the same time. It's just strange. The planter that is doing better has just exploded this week and I just can't figure it out. Why would one do so much better than the other?

Problem is, some seeds simply do better than other seeds. It sounds like that may be the case here. I am not sure where you bought your seeds but some people swear by particular seed catalogues that can guarantee seed quality.
