surprise latenight garden guests

I ventured into the yard after dark to set up the sprinkler for the next day, so I would be able to just pop outside and turn on the tap the next morning. I always do a quick sweep of the eyes to make sure I'm alone out there, as after-hour guests are not uncommon. All was clear, but there was a distinct scratching sound coming from behind the back fence while I was fastening the sprinkler onto the hose. What looked like a lone kitten who'd scaled the fence turned out to be a family of 6 racoons.

Not too long ago I was very surprised to see a skunk dart beneath a hedge in front of a house I drove to Safeway. I have never seen one in my city before. I sure hope I never surprise one of those in my yard.

That reminds me-I've GOT to fix my back door. Sometimes the kids close it, but not all the way. I"m always the one to find out the next morning that the door to the laundry room has blown right open overnight. I really don't want to wake up looking into the eyes of a racoon one day!

Ah yes, the garbage cans. We keep learning the hard way (from the mess) that those lid-lock handles are there for a reason!

LOl - I wouldn't want to meet those eyes in my house either!! They are so cute, but they can be nasty. Keep the lids tied down on your garbage.
