Thawing the bird!

It is my 6th annual Christmas Turkey dinner this year, and I have yet to begin thawing it in time. I will be running cold water over it tomorrow morning....again!

This year I should have put it in the fridge around midnight Thursday, but Thursday was my son's concert at school. Friday I wasn't thinking about the turkey either, as I was baking cookies for a party at school I found out about Thursday night at about 9pm. So, when I finally got around to remembering to thaw, it was nearly noon on Friday.

Darn!

I wouldn't DARE try something new like that. I'm not what I'd call gifted in the kitchen, and lately I'm kind of unlucky when trying new things too. (as in the cookies I tried for a teacher's tea, which were supposed to be rolled in sugar afterwards and the sugar did not stick to the cookies, so I had to make icing) The Chatelaine recipe sounds interesting, but I can picture sabbotage, like walking in to check on it to find boats and pirates from the bath toys collection all perched on and floating between the citrus rounds. Stuff like that always happens to me!

Did you see the Dec issue of Chatelaine? They soaked a turkey in water, oranges, lemons, kosher salt and sugar plus fresh spices - ginger, thyme, bay leaves & chili flakes. I thought this sounded good. Maybe you could try this since you're soaking your bird anyways. :D Maybe it'll start a new tradition.

Oh that sounds so familiar, 3 years in a row I had the bird floating in cold water in the bathtub, as I needed the sink. I vowed to order a fresh one after that. :)
