Tile counter top

Has anyone installed tile counters in their bathroom? Instead of installing solid granite, i was wondering if it was easy to install granite tile counters in the bathrooms replacing the laminate. My husband is pretty handy around the house and I would want him to do it, to save on the costs.

Any pictures or advice?

Thanks,

Mimi

I think they only come in standard sizes. Not sure if you can cut down any of the components. I think Home Hardware also carries something similar, by a different manufacturer.

Looking4ideas,

I'm looked at their site, but can't seem to figure out how to price out bathroom vanities? Do they actually cut the granite slabs to measure? Or does it only fit standard vanities?

Granite slabs sounds like exactly what I'm looking for. I'll have to check out their website. Hopefully it wouldn't be to pricey to ship to Ontario.

I'd be interesed to hear from anyone who has used their products.

Thanks.

I would normally agree with Peal Girl but I don't think granite tile would be as bad as ceramic tile for a couple of reasons -- it has very crisp edges and you place the tiles very tightly together, with very minimal grout lines. I have seen it in pictures and on TV and it looks good. I think a dark color with dark grout would also minimize the issues Pearl Girl describes.

The other option that you might want to consider is granite tile "slabs" -- they are bigger than tiles but still have a couple of seams. Build Direct carries them: http://www.builddirect.com/Countertops/Granite.aspx. They're cheaper than a solid granite counter but a little more pricey than tiles. Nice thing is that everything's precut to fit, with all the required edge pieces. I am considering using this in my bathroom, but haven't ordered yet and would like to hear from anyone who has ordered from Build Direct (they're out of B.C.).

my friend has a tile counter top in a bathroom and she hates it. She finds it hard to keep the grout looking clean. She would go with a solid surface if she ever does a redo. It is especially gumming looking where the tiles are cut to fit an oval sink. Maybe a square or rectangular sink would not be as bad. :)
