I just watched Brian on Cityline talking about curtains and he mentioned something which might be of help.
If walls are lighter than the main piece of furniture, then curtains should be darker than the wall colour. If walls are darker than the main piece of furniture, then the curtains should be lighter than the wall colour. I don't think he said anything about matching the furniture, but then I was doing a few other things at the time.

you know that really does make sense....i learned with my room, after trying many different creams, golds, and a zillion other lighter neutrals it really didnt balance the room but i find with the dark furniture that the olive green (which is darker than the walls) seems to balance things much better.........another thing i read one time.....say if you want olive curtains like i have, use the 3 things rule....meaning if your furniture isnt olive green, add two other things in the room that are the same color, such as a throw, vase or green in an area rug to tie in the olive green curtains.

thanks...good to know. I was thinking that the ones I bought were a bit too dark but i think lighter ones might stand out too much.
