Hi there everyone!

Due to the volume of posts in Decorating & Design, I would like to ask everyone again if they could please use each forum "room" for it's original intent.

There are several members here that are only able to check our forums for a few minutes each day and they are finding themselves lost in all of the OT posts.

It would be very helpful (and much appreciated) if we could try to keep OT posts in Free For All. I know many of you feel that D&D is the place to be, but I can assure you that with the number of OT posts in this "room", Free For All will be a hot "room" too.

Thanks for helping out!

:)

I am not offended at all by the incorrect spelling of my cow name. Things like that don't bother me at all!!!!

I appreciate all the help and opinions I have received on the forum but lately it seems that not only are there a lot of OT post.. but most threads turn OT... This one is a perfect example... a simple request by a moderator which has turned into 60 comments and a request to vote. Any other forum I go to has an OT section and it gets used for exactly that.

I also think that maybe the fab finds and DIY should end up in D&D and the following forums might make better sense (humble opinion)

D&D
Food
Gardening
OT

I really enjoy chatting with some of you and like to have fun as well but well....rules are rules.. I for one will support H&H and keep OT to that section. I will also do my best going forward to keep anything I post in a thread related to that topic.

Oh well maybe that's where I got it from and just assumed I didn't have to read more carefully. Too much auto pilot perhaps. Thanks.

Dustbunny, Never feel bad for calling Elise Elsie, she is often referred to as Elsie the cow on the forum. All with good intentions of course.

Thank you all for sharing your feedback.

Your views make sense to me and I value your opinions.

My request still stands in hopes that it will alleviate some traffic in D&D.

Hopefully things will be more orderly when we launch the new version of the forums. Unfortunately, I don't know when that will be just yet, but Jason is working hard on it in order to make everyone happy.

Thanks again.

My posts on this thread were written in an effort to explain to Jody and dustbunnydiva, and anyone else who was concerned, my theory of why we end up using this forum as an all purpose forum. It is just a theory. I am not attacking anyone. I am not trying to make anyone do anything differently. I am merely making an effort to explain, and perhaps hoping to mollify.

This forum is a service to the users, provided by House and Home in an effort to market their product. I appreciate the service but attribute to the moderators a genuine wish to serve us in such fashion as we find suitable. I doubt that the moderators care what we post where, in truth, beyond their desire to have each of us as satisfied as possible, and to ensure no one is abusing the service. Jody was surely writing in response to a complaint, and I replied with that in mind.

all the time about how the neighbourhood park is used...let's say there is an overwhelming number of households with dogs, so after public consultations and if the authorities agree, the park becomes a dog park....five years later, a number of families with very young children have moved in....another public discussion about the use of the park ensues....it is now leashed dogs only and a play structure is installed: simple, no? Those who don't care about the discussion or think it unnecessary, don't need to participate in it, but may not like what others decide to do with the park.

Websites are changed all the time to suit the changing preferences of the users...but the website hosts need to know what they are.

Dustbunny, this might be a mute point, but when the majority of us joined here, there were no guidelines or rules in place. A mute point I agree, I just thought I should point it out.

This is a discussion, not an attack on ANY individual!

Please don't make it sound like I'm trying to change any long standing rules or anything else. I do not understand why people aren't using the rules and pages that are already available. I assume all that are here have read them and agreed with them so I don't see where anyone is forced to do anything they didn't already agree to do. I also don't see where the moderators suggested a compromise. The request was to merely follow the guidelines as they exist. It's really quite simple although I've been more than long winded about why I think it works.

As I understand it, the moderators are trying to get people to use the forums as intended, no rule changes or debates were requested in that post. Jody posted to request people simply follow the guidelines which are in place. I support that whole heartedly and have given my reasons. I think these forum moderators seem to have been particularly patient. Meanwhile Jody has made the request, really, what more do people need to know? It's their site, their data banks, their programming, I think they get to remind people to go back to their house rules (which are quite standard in forums).

I assure you I don't come to H&H forums for the sole purpose of just being entertained. I also find alot of useful information here and I do care about people's projects. But I don't like it when people try to shove both of my feet into one shoe!!! Since this is bothering you tremendously I hope some kind of compromise can be reached. Like many other members here we have danced this dance many times before. Personally I'm sick and tired of all this nonsense!!!

I'm sure Dellee & many others will vote. Why not have a poll and have the members have to post in the thread - not their vote - that could be private - but that they did indeed vote. Then we could see how far off the number of votes would be from those who actually do vote.

As long as some can promise not to create additional usernames to vote muliple times.

A poll is a good idea, do you want to do it or shall I?

per day at the library. I have to read and answer my email and do any home building product type searching before I can go on H&H. I find it way easier to scan the thread titles in one forum. If they are well labelled, I don't read them if I don't want.

Even when I had all the time I wanted (as I will again very soon I hope), it is easier to scan one forum than many. The biggest slow down is the title of the thread. If I open it and I'm not interested, then it's on to the next one. It would be interesting to see how most people voted on this if there was a poll.

Your question reminded me, the Tech Support Forum is also used quite regularly! That is where people go with their technical requests and the moderators have certainly been responsive in the past. You should definitely post your wish list and suggestions there.

if all posts should from hereon out be posted under its appropriate forum, would this not mean that the traffic on those forums would increase, thus making it harder to find things on the DIY, Fab Finds page as well. Moving all those posts and new posts over to these forums, I frankly don't see why this will not only contribute to clutter these pages as well.
Furthermore, I suggest that someone starts leading by example.

That is why I asked re: moving of threads dustbunny. I'm sorry, but I must admit that I did not read all of your response "Well Dreamer Elise et al" because honestly I found it too long. I will go back and read it in its entirety when I have more time. I know we have asked about a "personal message" function in the past, so that if you wished to ask a forum member a particular question you could. I believe Jason said it was possible but not set up. Many forums have a "watch" feature to let you know when there were posts to a particular thread. That would probably be of use to many of us when we are looking for advice.

I meant only to suggest that you might ask Jason or Jody if a feature like might be installed to facilitate users that want to keep track of a certain thread. I have only passed through a couple of other forums and they both had such features. It may be, however, something that is only practical on a larger forum.

dustbunnydiva's picture

Can you explain the 'watch this post' feature you mentioned please? I havent' seen that one I don't think. I have seen a way to mark 'post of interest' but that is on larger forums sites like delphi or about.com which also track all the posts/users so everytime a user goes in it knows exactly what is new, what you want to track, etc.
