Tracey on Cityline

zella's picture

I've beee a fan of Cityline for years and enjoyed most of the shows but lately I've become so tired of Tracey's putting down women, her self included. When the chefs are on all she talks about is how she can't cook, can't even boil water. She talks all the time when guests are telling us things that we want to hear, I've even heard them tell her to wait a moment and they will get to it.
She also has a bad habit fo saying things like if she were a man things would be different, what a crock if a man can do it so could a women.
I had a friend in the other day who was watching a show earlier this week and the man who does the flower shows was on from Hawii and Tracey was putting women down on hiw portion of the shwo too.
has anybody else noticed this, or aare we too critical?
Thanks for letting me vent.
Cheers Zella

LOL That's hilarious.
Maybe she's just trying to be funny? Did the audience howl with laughter?

As for the Gold Card thing, I wonder how her DH felt sitting there having to hear that?

Yes, thank you DBD, that was the reason for my edit/post.

I only realized after I had read the entire link/s.

From first glance, the pic didn't resemble the angle I had seen on Cityline.

But the talk or mention of carribbean blue wall of cabinets and the stenciled letters made a match !!

My first thought was that can't be HER kitchen ? Can it now. Wasn't high end looking enough for her tastes. ;)

BINGO !

They didn't show that pic as I had read that it didn't turn out right & that is correct !!!!

YOu can see the lettering being done if you go to that link and click on the behind the scenes notes. There is also a picture and 'letter' from tracey.

Found it. Funny how things just pop into your brain when you are doing something else after wracking it for what seems like forever before that. Anyway, it was Debbie Travis http://www.debbietravisfacelift.com/episodes/20050109/index.php

You are right... there was a design show that did that kitchen and I never put it together with it being Tracey. now what show was that? Anyone remember?

That royal blue kitchen with the silver writing would have been her kitchen I presume ?

I watched the first few minutes today and was revolted also - I turned it off before she tried to make off with the shoes.

I saw the grommet thing too - so we all know she doesn't bother to prepare for the show at all, let alone watching old ones.

More clues.

"Oh yes, I am all about the champagne !"

She stole or tried to conceal the Christian Louboutin red soled leopard print high heels approx. $795.00 under her jacket.

Oh I am so glad I didn't watch it today because I would have probably PUKED Big wow a 'gold card' a gazzillion people have gold cards....what planet is she on?
I can't believe she said all that on tape and I also can't believe the producers aired crap like that. It's a valentine show for pete sake...what does that tell the viewers? ... all it tells us is that she is a shallow money hungry person who will be heading for divorce court by next season....Happy Valentines(?) After today I am sure they will lose even more viewers. What were they thinking!?!?!?

A little TMI !

dustbunnydiva's picture

Well I turned the show on for about 3 minutes today. It was the Valentine's special and Tracey is on tape with her hubby describing how they met etc.

What does she say impressed her most? Was it how romantic it all was, how kind or funny he was, or what great eyes he has, anything that would make us all go oooh ahhh? Nope, he used a gold card!!! She says it like that was just the most impressive thing ever. Thumbs up and wink wink nudge nudge on that one eh? Then he says at the end of the date he made her breakfast(I thought there was a 3 date rule about that sort of thing these days... am I out of touch?) and bought newspapers and she starts naming them all. Anyway, he says he flew off on vacation thinking just a nice 'date' and he was done, she says she decided right then she should marry him, theygotengaged, theyhaveababy. More time spent on the gold card and naming papers than the kind of important stuff or so it seemed to me. Guess we know where her priorities are.

Maybe it's my PR/marketing background kicking in, but I'm thinking that probably was the type of info most people would want to downplay in favour of presenting a more romantic, human side given the theme of the day. Instead they show the shallow side that would make most women cringe. More time on the gold card than the baby...The more I see stuff like that, the more I really do think the producers are trying to sink that chick (and I wish them well if that is indeed the idea). I just can't think of any other reason to present it that way unless Tracey has control and is really too dense to get how she portrayed herself. I wonder how unimpressed vs impressed the audience in general was with the sentiments she showed today. In my book she dropped with a loud thud to even lower point on the 'fine example of an appropriate host' scale.

He had a gold card...give me a break. Get your own gold card. Better yet, get your own platinum card. It's not that hard or impressive a feat.

Click, channel changed.

I've heard the same especially as it relates to Marilyn's new show that was supposed to start in Jan. Word was budget cuts pushed it to next Sept. but I guess we'll see. it's always hard to tell what's guessing and what's fact with this type of thing.

She is slightly annoying. Her other comment was' What do you call that?' 'Oh a grommet' She has never head of a grommet?! I was itching to ***** slap her and get on with the show, stop going on and on about the friggin grommet! WE know what it is!

The other day she also said after a decor clip 'oh Im sorry i didnt see that clip, I was too busy chatting, you'll have to explain to me what was just showing'

Patience is NOT one of my virtues but dealing with contractors is helping making it so. But I have to wonder if there even is going to be a Marilyn show at this point.

Wolfbaby's picture

That's definitely an interesting concept - I have wondered why on earth they would hire a host who obviously didn't even have enough interest in the job to watch some past episodes. Especially on homeday the number of times she interrupts a guest host to ask a question that all cityline viewers have known the answer to for years is strange. Yes new viewers may need the info, but Marilyn always dealt with that without using up all the guest hosts time and boring all her old viewers by just including it quickly at an appropriate time.

I hope Marilyn's new show is on home decor in some aspect.

Yes, I do now recall something about the CRTC directing them to divest of City and Rogers jumping in there. Frankly I'm not sure how it all works, because Breakfast Television is on both CP24 (which is definitely CTV owned) and City, which may be Rogers owned. With all the cross overs you can't even tell what you're watching anymore - half the time you're watching City News and then suddenly the sports report is coming direct from one of the cable sports stations and I'm blaming hubby for changing the channel, but they're just simulcasting again. But either way, the change at Cityline took place during all this transition, and the new owners (how ever many there are, have been or will be) still don't get the overall City format, and have been very agressive about trying to change it!

dustbunnydiva's picture
dustbunnydiva

I think you have it a bit confused. CityTV is now owned by Rogers who bought it from CHUM. That's the reason Marilyn had to leave because she wanted to honour her original CHUM contract. Because of it now being 2 networks, that meant she had to pick TV or radio and she chose to keep her radio show because she had been told there would be another TV show for her on CTV.. CHUM is owned by CTVGlobalmedia.

cherylallismom's picture
cherylallismom

Of course this all happened during the station transition. City TV is no longer City - well, its still called that, but its owned and run by CTV and they really don't get the City format at all. So Cityline isn't the only thing that is very off these days! Marilyn's new show, if it ever happens, is going to be on the main CTV network. I think they probably figured they could siphon off the money makers to their main network and leave City with the dregs. The funniest is actually on CP24, the all news station. Their newscasts aren't City newscasts anymore. They show the CTV newscasts. CTV Toronto has to be the stuffiest news show in the region. City was always the hippest. Its just so bizzare to see these stuffed shirts sitting behind their desks and the City banner at the top of the screen. So I wouldn't hold your breath on Cityline getting fixed. CTV has broken the whole City concept pretty permanently, and possibly intentionally.

dustbunnydiva's picture

My understanding is she was a news reporter or something similar on Breakfast TV in Toronto (same network). Yes, seems she would do better with just reading off info.

You know DBD that theory makes perfect sense. The trial hosting gig dragged on and on and on....I'd say almost ruined the show! Can't say when Tracey tried out as I gave up on the process about 2 weeks into the nonsense.
I can say that Tracey has cooled her jets somewhat on air but her voice is so shreekey (sp?) and she really comes across as not being interested in the majority of the topics and is not genuine....sorry, can't hide that from the viewers. I think she would be better off as a news reporter or something like that. She's not good for the show.
What did she do before Cityline?

dustbunnydiva's picture
dustbunnydiva

On the Cityline forum there are people who have been to taping and defended her as warm and personable. She may be in person, but on camera...I don't see it. On the last home day I caught a bit of it and she turned to Kimberly and said something like 'what did you say? I was busy talking to someone'....and made her repeat herself. Well that is good hosting....not. First she's not paying attention and lets us know and second we have to sit through it and she makes Kimberly repeat herself because she's not paying attention. Not much respect for the guest or audience IMO.

She was among the guest hosts but I think she was on a little later, closer to her starting. I wouldn't swear to that, but I don't have much memory of her appearing before fall while the others had been on since May. They did make it appear she was just one of the many.

I'm not convinced that of all the people who would have been itching to get that job they couldn't find someone who would have been more suitable. Again, if it was a fix, why would they highlight really good hosts during the 'trial'? As well I don't recall anyone who didn't live in TO. A show like that would really attract hosts from other parts, but I doubt they were given the chance if the decision had already been made. No point in paying their travel to apply. Better to have a lot of 'maybe/maybe nots'. No point in showing really good ones as it would make their final choice even more questionable. Just bring her in enough to make it look like she competed a bit.

This theory makes complete sense to me.
I don't recall Tracey being a guest host even once, although she may very well have been. I do rememer seeing an awful lot of Liz West and not liking her one bit. Remember her? Liz (cover yourself up) West. Now doesn't Tracey seem like an improvement over what could have been?

I'm curious as to the audience reaction to Tracey. I wonder if anyone has been to any tapings to spill the beans for us.:D

dustbunnydiva's picture
dustbunnydiva

Well fingers crossed that happens sooner than later. I'm all for her finding what she wants somewhere else and then everyone will be happier. Maybe we should campaign to have one of the big US or better yet austrailian networks (so we don't see it here) pick her up for something.

Someone on the Cityline forums mentioned an interesting coincidence. Cityline finally decided to pick a host just when Tracey's maternity leave was probably up. That put a light on for me ( of course that could be it! We all know of people put in positions they were unsuited for by someone who just 'liked' them or who had another agenda going. slap self on forehead for not considering that before).

Now when have you seen a show going on for months and months testing hosts especially when they had plenty of notice their host was leaving? Even when Johnny was retiring from the Tonight show they managed to do it more smoothly and they did have a guest host process going. A world like broadcasting that can turn on a dime takes over 6 mos to figure out a new host? then they just happen to put in someone they had on another show, who just happens to be coming off their maternity leave (or maybe giving her time to recoup her former bod from pregnancy)? Was it a done deal right from the start with them just playing everyone until she was ready to go back to work?

Now that was an interesting concept to me and one that explained a lot. Those producers had that show long enough and enough success going to make you think they know their stuff, yet they had this long muddled process only to pick someone who has garnered a lot of negativity from the audience they had always known so well. One good explanation for a sudden change in their approach and how that happens is having pressure from above forcing them to do something. Otherwise it looks like a serious change in mindset(choosing a host who isn't as personable) and lack of decision making skills being unable to pick a good host fast. that just doesn't fit with all that experience they have.

I also can't figure out what might have motivated them to suddenly start taping the shows a week out. They have always been basically 'live/same day tape' but since Tracey was put in place they are shot a week early. If they are still taping the shows daily, that means it wasn't to accommodate someone who might not have wanted to work 5 days straight (which I could understand given she has a baby). It would be a good way to ensure they had time to edit or retake fumbles though (although they sure let enough of her bad work come through that I don't think they are taking advantage of that). I just wonder if they aren't covering themselves knowing she really isn't quite right for this and giving themselves some cushion for when she really messes up.

In other words, they are working with what they have, the best they can, because she was rammed down the producers throats by some higher ups. Now they are ensuring they are covering their butts a bit but still letting enough stuff through to hopefully sink her ship so they can hire someone more appropriate.

Whatever is on the producers' minds, there is a lot about this whole thing that just didn't seeming logical to me until that done deal theory.
