It is Home day today on cityline - I decided to tune in. It hit me what was putting me off about Tracy Moore - she acts/speaks/presents herself more like a reporter. Whereas, Marilyn seemed to be more like a friend, someone who you could sit down and have a coffee with. I know that this may come with time with Tracy, however, I only learned of Cityline about two years ago and immediately felt "comfortable" with Marilyn...

Watching Tracy Moore! I love how she hosts the show! She's energetic, smart and represents the real Toronto!
I also admire her ability to look after her body.
I never knew of her before and, frankly, she should've stayed there! I loved CityLine, mostly because of Marilyn! I really miss her and when Tracy screws up, I miss her even more.
I totally agree with everything you SamKing just said about her personality etc.
I worry sometimes about her stability on the show. I hope she had the sense to have had a little sit-down with the powersthatbe before she bought a new house and redecorated it all and made the decision with her hubby for him to quit his job and stay home with their kids. She could lose it all in a heartbeat.
Marilyn has a yacht and a mansion on a vineyard?
I thought she had a condo in Scarberia.
thursdays are the same show
i never really liked marilyn she was too friendly with her guests like you knew she had them to her yacht or mansion on the vineyard
I didn't see the show (as per usual, can't take tracy and her brainless antics so don't bother unless there is a reason to put up with her). What did Gordon do? He was a really charming guy when he was on before (I think Marilyn even talked him into taking his shirt off) and usually is when interviewed.
Was it supposed to be humour or just plain idiot factor when host Tracy asked the 56 yr old make over astronomer/physics woman her 'astrological sign' ?
The intelligent lady gasped with disbelief and dryly or sarcastically quickly repeated:
Astronomy ! Not astrology !
Host still brushed it off and continued to ask her sign.
What a mess.
I think Tracey met her match with Gordon this week. It was great to watch her squirm and talk her way out of situation. He kept at her....
Still don't like her hosting abilities
Gee, don't know about you guys but I really enjoy watching Tracy Moore! Did you see how well she handled Gordon Ramsay this week? I've never seen the studio audience so engaged. I think Tracy's smart, snappy wit brings a cool, edgy feel to the show--- which, if you watch other shows, is what's popular and will bring in new, younger viewers.
Yeah, I saw the episode with the "youthful" chef and didn't find it that big a deal.
Since Tracy has been host I tune in religiously----even when it's not Fashion Fridays. She's young, fresh, and I love her outfits.
Give her a chance to make her niche.
DBD, I completely agres with you. I am not comparing Tracy to Marilyn at all. I am seeing her as a person I cannot enjoy watching on a TV Show that I once enjoyed very much and now have no interest in seeing at all. It's not the guests I have a problem with it's the host of the show.
DBD....:clapping: Well said.....I couldn't agree more!
Yes his comments were inappropriate but they were in direct response to her questions. It wasn't a 'describe what you are cooking and give us some tips' (which is normally how they do that type of thing). He started badmouthing the last chef or the town because he was responding to questions about how people responded to his recipes and if the staff respected him since he looked so young. He got put on the spot a bit as I bet he was totally unprepared to have to defend himself/his age in that way.
The thing was, her questions weren't just simple questions, she put a tone and some adjectives in them that steered him to make some less that diplomatic comments. So although he went into things he shouldn't have, he wouldn't have even mentioned them without her questions egging him on. For him I think it really boiled down to not having a lot of on camera experience and knowing what to say that would have got him out of that situation (Anna Olsen managed to get out of some sticky comments the week before but only because she is more experienced on air I think). For Tracy, she tread where she shouldn't have gone by going off topic into an area that could bring out contentious comments. That's more the type of questioning for a politician or someone you are trying to get to reveal something, not a chef showing a recipe.
The difference is most hosts would have not let him get into that situation. Had he started speaking inappropriately they'd usually head them off into another direction instantly to keep things positive and on track, but she kept going and getting him in deeper basically insulting small town people herself. It left me with a very uncomfortable feeling about what was happening as you knew that guy was in trouble and I bet he's going to be paying for that segment with his employer and that town now.
I saw that episode with the chef this weekend and I am really surprised by these comments. Ramsin & Karen were the first ones to mention how young that chef was when they went to Bayfield. It is a fairly obvious observation. If anybody was ungracious, it was the chef. He was haughty and spoke ill of his predecessor at The Bayfield Inn. He called Bayfield “a meat and potatoes” town in a very condescending manner. For someone who admitted (on tv!) that the people of the town and his own staff had difficultly accepting him, those were terrible comments. He obviously had not spent a lot of time in front of a camera and didn’t realize how awful he sounded. I can only imagine the backlash when he returns. Tracey is not Marilyn, nor should she be, she should be Tracey. It would be colossally embarrassing if she tried to be something she's not. She’s new and she’s learning and I accept her for that. Is she a right fit? Better than many of the other candidates they paraded in front of us. One thing I recall is that Cityline is not only a home, design and fashion show but it has hosted many big time celebrities over the years. Someone with strong reporting skills who can hold down an interview is not such a bad thing, not just a pretty hostess. Marilyn was the host of Cityline for many, many years. She’s made one or two faux paux in her lifetime and had her own annoying habits. Have you ever seen some of Marilyn’s earlier interviews with people who were so difficult to interview like a once shy Steven Sabados… painful. Over the years, Marilyn practically became best friends with her guests so of course the rapport is easier. I liked Marilyn, sad to see her go but different host, different show, I’m up for a change and it would be nice to see Tracey given a chance.
I still tape Home Day on Cityline or if there is Decor Panal on Tues. since I like the guests on the show and there expertise in decorating. I'm not 100% on Tracy yet, sometimes I don't mind her, hopefully in the new year she starts to relax and have some fun with the show and her guests.
Arizona........:biglol: I'm glad you see it my way!! :biglol:
I rest my case.:p
Sorry Arizona this has nothing to do with being a Torontonian.... just bad TV! However, Toronto IS the Centre of the Universe!!!!!! ;)
I didn't see the episode with the young chef but that sounds to me like your typical Centre of the Universe attitude Torontonians have become infamous for. Like everyone who doesn't live in Toronto must be an uncultured hick or something. I'm quite sure some are reading this right now and smirking as that's exactly what they were thinking.;) I think I've become immune to it at this point. I don't like it but I expect it just the same.
Because I don't see the show but loved it when I could get it I was interested to what they are saying over on Cityline.ca. They have really mixed feeling some love her and some just can't get over losing Marilyn. I know Hosts come and go and she will be a hard one to follow but they seem to have really missed the mark on this one.
That's when I watch too. Because these guest above are well seasoned in their profession and also do well in front of the camera, they make her look even 'dumber' when she banters on.
I too agree she on the edge of making a major verbal faux pas. Should happen anytime soon. What she did to the young chef this week, which for some reason that channel was on that day, was so insulting to him and the town he is working in.
One day - if she should last ??? -.....................
she may actually just put her foot in her mouth and get some backlash. (rewind to years back when Oprah made a comment about beef/meat industry which resulted in a lot of court drama)
I thought it funny when Cityline had a holiday gift episode recently and the guest host said something to Tracey about how this chocolate design of a shoe would be a very fitting for Tracey.
I was on my sofa choking on my cup of coffee.
I seriously wanted Tracey to open the package and stuff the chocolate shaped shoe into her mouth.
Whether there was a hidden message in that or just my active imagination taking over once again !!
:D
Apparently not this one....
Do these hosts even realize what they are saying/doing???.....I find myself feeling so uncomfortable for the guests that I cannot watch!!
The other day they had on a young chef - 27 yrs old. She kept referring to him as a young boy like a teenager. I don't think he was too pleased !!
...
Yes that poor guy. She was unbelievable awful to him IMO. First she goes after what every young guy appreciates, being told he has a baby face and looks like he's 12 and then after showing she no longer had any interest in what he was cooking because it had fat in it she nails him with how would he get others to respect and work for him being so young, how do you get people in a small town into 'hoity toity' cooking (insulting everyone in small towns too)...We don't care Tracy, he's there to cook, show a recipe, talk about traditional Canadian foods. Then as the topper, instead of making him comfortable being new on the show and obviously not very experienced with being on camera, she points out that she gave him hints when he asks if they are out of time. Just awful behaviour.
BTw she even managed to insult Ramsin on that show pointing out it looked like he was wearing the same shirt he had on in a taped piece. Not very gracious and luckily Ramsin let her know she was quite mistaken.
What she seems to be missing is when you have to keep saying 'just kidding' your delivery and message needs some work because people are taking you the wrong way.
I will say, I watched yesterday and she managed to get through the whole show without insulting anyone. Mary D was on again and looked somewhat uneasy though. Not sure if she was just bracing herself or something else, but she didn't look comfortable.
Here's hoping she's still in a probationary period and they can rethink this hosting thing. They had others who would have been easier to watch than this one.
The only time I watch the show now is when Brian, Ramsin, Kimberley, or Karen Kane is on the show, those are my 4 favorite designers. I watched a few minutes of a show a couple of weeks ago, I noticed that Tracy is always talking the same time the guest is talking, I couldn't watch it anymore.
I am sorry to say that I am not missing the show any longer either. I was disappointed in the choice of Tracey from the beginning. There were better hosts than her in my opinion.
I saw Brian Gluckstein on CTV this morning. I miss him.
No not necessarily. Others could have been better. Seems like management made the wrong choice.
I haven't seen the show in nearly a year now but the others must have been terrible if she is the best that tried out and everyone says how bad she is. I really don't miss the show now.
I was a long time Cityline viewer.....mostly because of Marilyn. Tracy Moore started off OK but IMO she is getting worse as time passes! :( She has a tendency to talk over the guests & tries to be humourous but is not! Sadly I hardly watch anymore!
Well wasn't that her job prior to CityLine ? A news reporter for BT ?
I think she is quite capable of reading the headlines or a script.
She has not acquired what Marilyn had - the humour or adlibbing.
When Tracey does, it either is poorly delivered and comes off as insults or in poor taste.
I can see her doing the serious breaking news story as she does have a hard edge about herself but she lacks the softness as host.
The other day they had on a young chef - 27 yrs old. She kept referring to him as a young boy like a teenager. I don't think he was too pleased !!
I don't think she is a good fit from what I can tell.
