traffic noise

I have just bought a place that has a huge balcony. The only problem is that there is traffic noise which bugs the heck out of me. When I bought the place, I didn't realize that the street was as busy as it is. Can you suggest something to block the noise. I have bought a water fountain and some cedar hedges. Anyone have anymore ideas? Thanks very much.

How about a water feature out on your balcony? The sound of water splashing onto rocks would be nice! :D

Chances are that you are sensitive to it now because it is new. After a while Most people become so used to noise that they don' t hear it any more. That's how people live by tracks, airports, downtown, or where ever. It just becomes part of the background in pretty short order. It just becomes like white noise.

I can tell you I used to live right in the core, a half a block from a firehall and after a while I didn't even notice the sirens. You just get used to it.

As well it sort of becomes a sign of life. For some people having lots of noise around implies a lot of life whether it's traffic or a field full of kids. So give yourself a chance to become aclimatized to the new environment and you may find you don't need a lot of camoflage (sp?) for it.

When you ae out there maybe one of the tapes that sound like birds or the ocean will help cover it up. I think that what you have done is a good start and it should help some.
