Trees

A large, old beech tree adjacent to my property was recently demolished [as if we haven't lost enough because of hurricane Juan]. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the tree; it was about 50 feet high and the remaining trunk is 3 to 4 feet in diameter. My question is: do the roots continue to flourish, and if not, how long before they die?
Is there anything I can do to encourage some growth from the remaining stump?

No its dead, sorry.. My advice is remove the stump and put in new soil. Plant a small tree and let it take the place of the old tree. Good luck -David

Hi Janette, I'm also in Dartmouth and reeling with the same issues! I can't help you but I do know there was a teacher at the Agricultural college in Truro who offered to help with info ... all you have to do is call the 1-800 number. I hope that helps.
