I am currently renovating my basement. I plan on painting the wall colours a very light colour and wish to do the trim and baseboards in a dark grey/brown. Will this make the space seem smaller and look like a dark band running around the space? The ceilings are low to start with and the reason for the dark trim is because I painted the door a deep red/brown.

Sorry for the delay, Brigit! Have you made a decision? Personally I think painting out the trim and baseboards the same colour as your walls would be great for a small space. Contrasting trim will really draw attention to the size of the space.
