Try distressing your kitchen cupboards if you're allowed, and add one of those colourful roosters on your countertop. There is a beautiful type of pottery found in Tuscany called Deruta pottery. I'm not sure if you can find it here, but if you can, it would add a lovely authentic touch
loved the earlier ideas for your kitchen and what about some black wrought iron curtain rods (or cheap brass ones painted black with spray paint), also maybe some splashes of deep red I think would be nice. Have you looked into self sticking wallpaper border? May find something that works for you and it is inexpensive and removes in a flash. I also think the vinegars and oils are a great idea. You can even make your own if you have some wonderful glass containers and/or old wine or liquor bottles.
How about some shelving somewhere in the kitchen with a display of really unique bottles of olive oils, and spices.... Can you buy a sheet of faux brick laminate and just place it on the wall with some inexpensive two sided tape?? You could try displaying different Italian wine bottles and flavoured vinegars.... some hanging garlic bulbs... etc... just head to your local Italian deli for some great decor ideas! Good luck.
