how about a large mirror to hide the hole.....would that work?...or could you just mount the art work to the outside of the box?
I wanted to remove the shelf but it is glued in so it would make a bit of a mess to remove...I still might use the art work idea...it does get really hot, I had a mexican vase crack there!
What about removing the shelves and just hanging a favourite piece of artwork - and you could add an undermount light above it to highlight?
CAn you add a false back to the unit to make it a regular bookshelf depth.I like the idea of a bar but it would not be good to store any wine there they can't take the tempature change but you could put your glasses and decanters there.
that's a tough one.......maybe a bar...could you put your bottles and glasses in there....or would the fireplace get too hot......maybe add doors and keep the bar closed unless special guest come over......... :D
