I've inherited a white metal double headboard with brass knobs. I really am not keen about the brass and would like to have white knobs or something more muted.
Can you recommend sources for finding new knobs or a technique to tone down the old ones?
The headboard itself is not that old. I believe it was probably purchased in the past five-ten years. (I see similar models in department stores.)
Thanks!

Sorry Tamara, i just noticed now that you want more info.I've only done brass knobs with acid. I just poured the acid in a glass bowl then put the knobs in for a few hours. They come out looking aged. Be very careful handling this product, use outside with rubber gloves. You can purchase muriatic acid at any hardware store. Hope this info helps!
Try drapery finials. I used this with an old metal headboard for my daughter and inserted glass/clear finials from IKEA. Looks beautiful!
We have a 15 year old, polished brass bed which I would like to make more like old brass. The polsihed brass seems too "80ish" for my liking. Would I be taking on too much to use this acid and, would it work? Can you give me more details of how it looks completed? I'd be doing a headboard and footboard. Where do you buy the stuff?
I've used muriatic acid on shiny brass to age it.Be very carefull handeling this product. Best to do it outside.

Could you just spray paint them with a metal paint like Tremclad?
