Hi everyone!
I have the instructions for the upholstered headboard Cameron Macneil made from H&H's website.....however, I am not super handy and I don't understand how I put the frame together. I understand how the wood is cut, but when he says use L-brackets to make it connect together, I don't understand how the thin wood then goes over top - I mean, wouldn't it leave a gap between the big wood and the little wood? I know you can't buy vhs copies of the show, and it's not going to be re-run anytime soon, but can someone please help me in trying to figre out how the wood gets attached? I am sorry I sound so clueless.......

I just finished making one and had trouble understanding his directions too. After fiddling with molding pieces at Home Depot, I came up with something that works fairly well. I had to glue two pieces of molding together first so it created a lip inside the frame for the masonite to sit in. Then when it was glued and nailed (an electric stapler/nail gun will be your best friend!), I put it in the mitre saw to cut the right lengths. You really need two people for it's tricky to glue the corners together. Work on one corner at a time until it dries, before moving to another. Then, screw on L brackets for extra strength. It works, but I think that the pre-made stretchers found at an art store (in any size) might be easier to get the frame together. Good luck!
This is how we put our upholstered headboard together: we screwed the upholstered squares and the frame onto a board. Make sure the board that you use is big enough for everything to fit, but smaller than the size of the squares and the frame together.
Does that help??
Also, do the wood covered panels fit flush into the frame, or do they overlap it in the back? If anyone has a vhs copy of this episode I would greatly appreciate being able to borrow it!!!
